Agreed but would it be fair to say our season is a (slight) disappointment if we lose to Bolton in FA cup QF and finish 4th? Playing Devil's advocate....
I will be gutted by 5th place, top 4 is fine. Whilst I would love to win the FA Cup - especially if we beat Chelsea in the final - this season is about getting CL football for me, so that we keep our star players. Would bother me somewhat to be below Arsenal, given the players they have lost this year, but top 4 is paramount.
Damn right. I'll eat my own hands in frustration is we finish below Arsenal, I've waited since 1993 for this chance.
Top 4 is a minimum requirement - and also buggers up Chelsea's hopes of competing within the Financial fair Play rules royally...
4th for me. Which I will be delighted with, as long as we follow that up with getting in the Group stage of CL next season.
Remember last time? course you do, if you were like me you shat it for a fortnight whilst we tried hard to get into it. No way, not for me, not again! Third please!
we'll finish 3rd,arsenal have had a mini revival but it won't last, they are still struggling to score more than one goal in 90 minutes
Fair point. I guess progress is what matters. The trend is important I suppose. But sometimes that trend isnt realistic to expect. You will have ups and downs in terms of your trend. Nothing wrong with being consistant.
I don't? Anyway, winning stuff in the medium term is important, just think this year, as a one-off, it is more important that we get top 4 otherwise we may find ourselves rebuilding again, and that would be a pity. Generally winning trophies is the priority.
It's more the fact that it's become one of Arsene's many, many mantras he recites to himself when the cameras are around - along with his talk to playing the "best" football or his commitment to youth - that doesn't quite disguise the fact Arsenal have been doing the bare minimum for years, and a lot of that is because Wenger isn;t going to be changing anything in his style or system now, because it worked before. Kenny Dalglish is also guilty of sticking to a formula that worked in the past but doesn't in this day and age (think about it, the way he's set up Liverpool is exactly how he set up Blackburn - Andy Carroll is a Sheareresque battering ram up front, Jamie Carragher is a Hendryesque war horse at the back, Pepe Reina is Tim Flowers, and the ineffective bunch around them are the rest of the 1994-5 Blackburn squad nobody can remember the names of)
We absolutely must finish above Arsenal. If we don't, the Gooners on this forum will make our lives a living hell.
Indeed. At least we'll have that to beat them over the head with. Yet another captain deserts the team that he loves. Oh, look! I've already started with the wumming!
Arrange the following clubs into the order it will hurt Arsenal fans the most when he moves to them... Anzhi Makhachkala Barcelona Chelsea Inter Juventus Manchester City Manchester United Milan Paris St Germain Real Madrid Tottenham
Resurrecting this... 6 games to go: We lie in 4th 2 points behind Arsenal, and just 3 ahead of Chelsea and Newcastle. I originally said 5th - 6th but Newcastle were probably too far back. Our form has improved a little lately but not enough. Needless to say tomorrow is an absolute must-win. Everyone says we have an easy run in but it's well known that the relegation threatened teams fight hardest around this sort of time. We can't 'just turn up' against QPR, Blackburn and Bolton. Then add the recently good Fulham into the mix and our run-in has a fair few pitfalls to contend with. Has my opinion on our finishing place changed? Yes - 6th now and not 5th.
