Ashley Young vs Stewart Downing.

Say what you will about Downing, if he can play five games in four days he can't be that bad...

 

Not sure where I got the original stats from but the updated lot are from good old Wikipedia.

 

I didn't know Downing had any dimensions.

 

Pointless thread really. Ask any sensible fan and we'll tell you that Downing was better than Young last season - but this season he's failed to perform for whatever reason and Young's played the better football. Still, if it makes you sleep better keep on making ****e like this, you're arguing against no one.

 

Maybe last season that was true. But ask any sensible fan and they will also tell you that Young is consistently better than Downing, and last season was a one off mainly cos Young was clearly distracted by the thought of moving to a bigger club. And even then Young still managed more goals + assists in fewer games

 

Downing is far superior than one trick Ashley.

Downing > Young.

Downing - 33 Goals - 567 Shots - 49 Assists - 0.11 Goals Per Match
Young - 63 Goals - 554 Shots - 93 assists - 0.28 Goals Per Match

So not only is downing older and played about 1/3 more PL matches he has got half the amount of assists and goals as Young.

Young has always been superior to downing. In all aspects.

 

Them statistics are pretty damning for Downing.

True, but goals/assists aren't the be all end all. Downing was Villa's best overall player last year (I'll bold it this time so people can make relevant comments). We took a gamble on him thinking he'd keep up the same level of performance now he's supposedly coming into his prime but alas, he simply hasn't delivered.

 

I personally don't think Downing was better than Young last season but each to their own

 

Downing had a good season last year, but I personally dont think he was better than Young overall and Young had one of his poorer seasons by his standards, Downing did win Villa's fans player of the year but Young was never going to win that having already announced his intentions to leave.

I work with Villa fans and they all say Young is the better player, yes downing had a few good games last year for villa, but was to inconsistent, where Young was way more Constantin.
