A Tottenham Hotspur fan's goodbye to Harry Redknapp

We published an article yesterday asking if Tottenham fans would be disappointed if Harry Redknapp stays. They will be, if this response is anything to go by...

    A poster called SpursGuv writes:

"I'll be gutted if he stays. A large portion of Spurs doing well is down to Levy and previous signings.

"Van der Vaart forced Redknapp to forgo the dreaded and limited 4-4-2.

"As soon as he gets a chance he reverts to type. No one, like no one plays 4-4-2 and wins anything! I think he is now taking spurs apart.

"There's certainly a problem with Lennon. Who hasn't been the same since Redknapp blamed him for defeat in europe (a la Bent style).

"He plays Bale all over the place which screws up both sides of the park. He plays the best central midfielder in the world on the left and replaces him with Livermore, disgusting.

"If I were Modric I'd up and leave now, not the summer. He still can't pass up a bargain a la Saha and worse he signs a player and promises not to use him against his old club wtf?

"He constantly brings up the England job and I for one think he and the media are the only ones who want him there.

"He's done his best and is found wanting in many ways. Get rid and forget Mourinho, he's not coming here, get Moyes or someone else in.

"Southampton and Portsmouth kept him past his use by date and look what happened there.

"Sure we wont follow the financial situation but we are going to suffer on the pitch.

"There's no disgrace in losing to Arsenal (yeah there is) Man United and Everton but we shouldn't have and certainly not been hammered by the former two.

"We have been well beaten by City, United and Arsenal where a simple change in tactics would almost certainly have given us points. He doesn't have it in him.
"Never wanted him. Hate the type of person he is and hate having to give him credit for a decent job so far.

"But if Levy didn't keep a tight reign on him we'd have a dad's army at spurs. He bought Crouch, Chimbonda, Defoe, Saha, Parker and Keane all wrong for Spurs.

"We desperately need a decent CB and all the talk is of more strikers. There's no real cover for Bale, Lennon, Modric, VDV, King, Walker or Ekotto.

"We have Sandro to cover Parker so what does 'Arry do, bring in Livermore! Another overrated central midfielder! We have some great young players so where are they.

"Instead of moving Bale try one of 'em. They did a good job in Europe. I'll never forget Harry praising Obika, 'great player, has a great future', he's vanished?

"Harry's too old school if you ain't a great trainer you don't get in.

"For those who've played the game you know talent comes above everything. Take King for example, can't train but gets up for every game even if he is now just losing his edge.

"Bye Harry, I wont miss ya."

Do you feel the same way?"

"I'll be gutted if he stays. A large portion of Spurs doing well is down to Levy and previous signings. - Kind of but Levy got it about as badly wrong as he could've with Santini and Ramos so he's not perfect either.

"There's certainly a problem with Lennon. Who hasn't been the same since Redknapp blamed him for defeat in europe (a la Bent style). - Wrong

He still can't pass up a bargain a la Saha and worse he signs a player and promises not to use him against his old club wtf? - Wrong

"Southampton and Portsmouth kept him past his use by date and look what happened there. - Wrong

"Never wanted him. Hate the type of person he is and hate having to give him credit for a decent job so far. - 'decent job'?! He's the best manager we've had in a long time, surely only a reactionary fool would think otherwise. Oh...

"But if Levy didn't keep a tight reign on him we'd have a dad's army at spurs. He bought Crouch, Chimbonda, Defoe, Saha, Parker and Keane all wrong for Spurs. - Chimbonda was re-signed as back up and promptly released once we had better backup. Crouch and Defoe played key roles in getting us CL football. Parker has been one of our best players this season. Keane helped steady the ship, I think we were all disappointed when he couldn't reach his former level with us again.

"We desperately need a decent CB and all the talk is of more strikers. - What talk?

"We have Sandro to cover Parker so what does 'Arry do, bring in Livermore! Another overrated central midfielder! We have some great young players so where are they. - Livermore IS one of the young players, Sandro has been injured a lot this season and Livermore is doing a fine job when called upon.

I'll never forget Harry praising Obika, 'great player, has a great future', he's vanished? - He's ****.

"Bye Harry, I wont miss ya."

Do you feel the same way?" - No.

All very interesting (and to a point valid,) but the opinion of one man. That is not "spurs fans" or did you add the "s" by mistake? Where are the positive comments? (there must have been some.) Are you trying to inform us or make a point? In which case why not write what YOU think?

it's one of the strangest posts I've even seen from a fellow spurs fan. it's worrying how some people have such a difference of opinion, yet the support the same club and watch the same team.

"Van der Vaart forced Redknapp to forgo the dreaded and limited 4-4-2." - sorry mate,I forgot how effective the long ball approach up to crouch was!! <doh>

jeez chirpy, sorry. Am I in detention?

I was merely copying a ridiculous article which stated some horrendously inaccurate comments from a "spurs fan". It was only supposed to be a bit of light humour showing that even though we might have lost 3 games in a row and might be disappointed with recent tactics.... at least none of us haven't lost the plot like this bloke!

my apologies, I should have made this clear.

It's a massive overreaction and the supposed Guv moaning about us playing 4-4-2 seems to have forgotten that it was the formation that got us into the Champions League in the first place.

Redknapp's made some very poor mistakes recently, but he's done a very good job overall.
If he stops pissing about now and gets back to what makes us so dangerous, then this guy's going to look very stupid at the end of the season.

I think we were playing 4-4-2 when we stuffed Newcastle.

Nevertheless, facts that do not fit in with opinion must be discounted.

Agree with that big time. A geezer at work (who's 27) has supported Spurs since 2006. Before that, I'm told he was Liverpool, beofre that Blackburn :emoticon-0111-blush

When I was at school, one kid supporting Norwich in the first year, Man Utd and Liverpool in the second year, Newcastle in the third year onwards - although in the fourth year he said he might support Blackburn as he "liked their kit."

Three guesses what each of those seasons involved...

Some valid points are raised but it is a huge over reaction to 3 disappointing results and the England thing, I mean crikey we could have someone like Benitez and be playing dire defensive football and still losing, at least we have (disappointingly) lost with the Spurs style.

I agree with the Livermore comments to a certain extent, sure he is young and a neat and tidy player with potential but is he really ready for a top 4 run in and he isnt the player (yet) to change games in our favour.

Its up to the players, I hope they take a long hard look at things before Stoke. They have the choice right now to play in the CL next season, with or without Harry, they will still be in it, which I believe is what they all want for themselves. It needs a character in the dressing room to galvanise this into the team, 'do you want it or not?'.
