Russian big-spenders Anzhi Makhachkala are ready to offer Nicklas Bendtner a summer exit from Arsenal, with Sunderland unlikely to make his loan permanent.

Bendtner joined the Black Cats on a season-long loan in August, having told Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger he would no longer settle for a fringe role at the club, but has since struggled to impose himself in the North East, with a number of injuries and off-field issues restricting his progress.

The move was seen as key in rejuvenating the 24-year-old, as he linked up again with Steve Bruce, a man who had helped launch his career with a loan spell at Birmingham in 2006.

But despite making 12 appearances, Bendtner scored just twice, and Bruce was sacked before Christmas and replaced by Martin O'Neill.

The former Celtic boss has since transformed Sunderland, but has struggled to tame Bendtner, who has been arrested twice this season - once after a hotel brawl in September, and again after cars were damaged in Newcastle - despite being told he is losing his battle to earn a permanent stay at the Stadium of Light.

He was released without charge over the brawl, and cleared of the car damage charges after the case was withdrawn.

On the pitch, he has scored in successive games for Sunderland, but speaking this week, O'Neill admitted he is not sure about the Dane's future.

'I really don't know. I think he realises it's a big season for him. He's been sent out on loan to us from Arsenal who have decided not to use him this season,' said his manager.

'Perhaps that would have been a blow to his confidence, although perhaps not.'

Bendtner knows he will have one final chance to prove himself to O'Neill in the closing stages of the campaign, and has subsequently rushed himself back from a series of injuries, including a broken nose, in an attempt to show his desire.

However, he is also preparing for other eventualities, and after admitting his admiration for the Russian Premier League recently, Bendtner has been watched by billionaire outfit Anzhi, and added to their summer shopping list.

Bendtner fits coach Guus Hiddink's new transfer strategy, of powerful, hungry players who have not been given opportunities at top clubs, and with Arsenal desperate to move on his £50,000-a-week wages in the summer, he could be available for as little as £5million.

Lokomotiv Moscow and Rubin Kazan are other options reportedly being sounded out by Bendtner's agent.

I just feel that this fellow has an attitude problem which will not fit well with MON's way of thinking. Reading this article, MON makes it very clear that he thinks that Bendtner has a too high opinion of his own abilities, and seems to be trying to knock him down a peg or two.

Personally I don't think he has done enough. Even if he plays well in the next 10 games it will just show he needs motivation in the form of a transfer to play well. If we sign him he will be comfortable and go back to being lazy and ineffective. I would much rather us go for someone like Grant Holt who gives 110% every game and will get 10+ goals a season.

I fully expect this to happen in the summer. Bendtner isn't going to accept a pay cut to come here and we aren't going to pay him £70k per week if if can get it and play European football.

Our sights will be set elsewhere in the summer imo, armed with Gyans sale and a few bob from Ellis.

Right back cover, Bridge and a top striker would be my targets.

    Imo we need

2 strikers - Pavel Pogrebnyak (you's will knock this, his goal tally has been poor, apart from the EPL, but very good target man which is what we need, and he is only on a 6 month contract at Fulham)
    And possibly Hoilett?

    Wayne Bridge for lb cover

For rb coveri would of loved Onouha, but we didnt get him so i'd sayy for a temporary measure Jose Bosingwa (out of contract this season i believe)

However yes we have a left winger, but do people not think we need cover?
In the form of Anita at Ajax or Royston Drenthe on loan from Real Madrid?

Gotta feeling he will be staying.......a lot of this theory depends on what he does till the end of season..........

People talk about his wages, and then expect us to keep Bridge...who i expect is on more.................

I am fairly sure Bridge is out of contract in the summer. I cannot see anyone paying him 80k a week again so he is a possibility.

As for RB we have Bardo and O'shea as well as Gardner I don't see a big problem in that position.

Our main buys if we don't lose any key players should be: A left back (this free's Ricco to cover McClean if he gets injured/suspended) and a striker. The rest is all looking very good. We might need another CB if Bramble leaves.
