I've supported the lad since he arrived but recently, well ok, last game versus Ipswich, started to change my mind. Tonight though, and no the games not over yet, I'm going back to my original view of the lad. Runs everywhere, CAN score, plays his heart out, and given time could become a Mighty Tigers legend. No, not based off just scoring tonight, and saving a certain goal, I really believe in him, and think you lot should too!
I'm happy for the lad for getting a goal. I'll support him because one of us. His mistake at the weekend changed the game, to be fair, and he'll be the first to say he was in the wrong. I don't want to keep on going back to this, but it was pretty daft. He puts himself about and it's one his greatest assets, but he needs to score few more goals.
Has had some frustrating moments, but tries very hard and is a likeable player, hopefully he can start scoring more
He has hardly had a chance to play in his preferred role, but wherever he plays, he always puts in full effort, which is all you can really ask of a player. I like him. I want to see him have a run of games up top.
Just because he scored tonight does not make absolutely brilliant and a great championship striker. However he has shown recently his different type of wing player has earnt that change to play up top and he deserve to keep that place against Palace.
Yep, let's not forget it's his first league goal in over 3 months, and his problem has always been that he doesn't score enough so it'll take more than 1 goal to change that.
Maybe not a coincidence that his best performances this season have all been when he's up front in the middle - when he does play there he certainly scores more goals but, more than that, I think he opens things up for the others. I wonder if Matty Fryatt might benefit from dropping back a few yards and playing off McLean's play with his back to the goal.
City sounded much more dangerous with the pace of McClean, King and Stewart up front. I know Fryatt was only on for 10 minutes, but after coming on I didn't hear his name mentioned.
I've long been a fan of McLean's and stood by him whilst the negative ****s tore him to shreds. Good to see him receiving the plaudits he deserves
I think he's the best player we have to play the central striker role in Barmby's 4-2-3-1 formation. Not necessarily for his goals return, but his hold up play, strength, pace all give him the edge over Fryatt IMHO. A few times when listening to the commentary it said the ball had been sticking up front. So using McClean means we get more out of Koren and the two wingers (in tonight's instance Stewart and King)
Obviously I did'nt see the game tonight but by listening to humberside commentary Josh King sounded like a right handfull tonight for Cardiff. Of course I could be wrong cos you can't always count on Burnsey to give a real accurate view of the match but I'd be interested to know someones opion from a person who saw the match.
Yes you are spot on with this post mate. It was a joy to watch. King was very very good IMO and Fryatt to be fair was just used to tick down the clock. I was surprised that NB did not bring on Cullen for the last ten minutes really. But by then City were playing keep ball. Fryatt had a well deserved night off.
King was they all were. What Burnsy has said was correct. Kings pace and McLeans work rate were awsome. Stewart was also back to something like his old self. BELEAVE. i WAS THERE. Great night had by all that were there to see it.
I'm a bit confused by the original post. Unless you posted this on your mobile at the game how can you're view of him change so dramatically from the Ipswich game to a game you've listened to on the radio? Talk about fickle. Also, his goal was lucky. He did exactly what Fryatt does and ran it too close to the keeper leaving no angle for a shot but got lucky with the rebound leaving him an open goal. Just to add, before I get accused of slagging him off, I do quite like Mclean what he lacks in that extra bit of quality he makes up for with workrate and desire.
From anyone who was there last night, was there are an improved performance from Stewart? How was Josh King's performance?
