How does Percy compare to Henry and other top Premier League strikers? His record this season is phenomenal, but do his previous average seasons pull him down the list? Personally I reckon he's better than Henry and just behind Ronaldo and Shearer for the best Premier League striker ever.
Henry is the best premier league player ever. No contest. RVP is top class but really is a shame he had so many injuries. If he had stayed fit then we could of dominated football for the last 5-6 years
Ronaldo was good for 2 seasons? Shearer was average and scholes is good but not quite as good as thierry imo.
Shearer average Top PL scorer; hardly average. Scholes is clearly better than Henry. And Ronaldo is on another level to Henry; he didn't flop in Spain for a start.
Neither did Henry. In his first season he got 17 goals from the left and in the second season he was apart of the attacking front line that won Barca the treble. In that season he got 25 goals and 11 assists from the wing. And all this was when he was not at his peak and playing in a new role. For my money, Henry was the best premier league forward. But the best player is Giggs.
So his record is ****e compared to Ronaldo's? Yeah, Giggs is pretty good. Scholes is better though. Anyway, back on topic, what about RVP?
No point comparing Ronaldo at his peak with Henry's time at Barca. Like I said he was past his peak. In his peak and playing through the middle he would have had a field day with some of the defences in La Liga. Also at Barca everything is built around Messi so Henry was never the focus or the player that got the ball most. As for RVP, injuries have stopped him from doing what he has done this season earlier. I remember in the 07-08 where he was flying and had the likes of Fabregas next him. He went to play for Holland and then missed the rest of that season. At the time you had the feeling he was going to match Ronaldo and Messi but sadly for him he did not because of injuries.
Also when thierry played in spain it was more competitive than it is now. Real and barca were only starting to bend the over teams over for tv money and resources. Now they have them fully bent over so ronaldo plays for real madrid every week vs sides with league 1 budgets. No surprise he gets alot of goals. Good player he is nonetheless.
I think he could have in that season. Lets not forget them two did score 50 not odd goals back then. Adebayor got 30 goals for us in that season because our midfield in that season had amazing creativity (mainly from Fabregas). A fully fit RVP would have scored more goals then Adebayor.
How can you compare midfielders like Paul Scholes to phenomenal strikers like Henry? It doesn't work. Sorry now. And I think Henry is better than RVP, you can't speculate what he would have been like had he not been injured all this time and all we have to go on is one season. So Henry > RVP I'm afraid.
1). 1 goal every 1.9 games over an 18 year career, with a record of almost 1 goal every appearance for 4 years at Blackburn 2). 3 seasons scoring over 30 goals and 4 seasons scoring over 20 3). EPL all time top goalscorer Van Persie has officially done nothing yet which Alan Shearer hasn't already done, and it's only now, at the age of 28, that we're likely to see Van Persie's very first 30+ goal season. I'm not saying that Shearer was better than Van Persie will ever be, but to call him average is a bit ridiculous.
Shearer I never rated to be fair. I dont think you can compare rvp who is up there with the worlds best currently with shearer who never was in that bracket. Good career admittedly. But he was never a special player.
to score 30 in a PL season is massively impressive - very few players have done it, but Shearer has. if RvP does it, he'll join the elite.
Henry was better than Shearer, van Persie or united era Ronaldo. Probably the premier leagues greatest ever.
