Whenever I see a Spurs fan bringing up Arsenal's recent trophy drought I'm left utterly confused, I mean, this is a Spurs fan after all, and not a support of Manunited, Madrid, or Barca. This is Spurs we are talking about, the team who last won the league in 1961, yes, that's 1961, and this is the team who has only managed to win the Carling Cup as their most recent success of lifting silverware. But having said all that, I think it's better I give you Spurs fans an educational lesson on Arsenal's success rate vs Tottenham's success rate. Arsenal's League success: 13 leagues titles, 2 of those titles were secured at White Hart Lane I might add. Arsenal's FA Cup success: 10 FA cups. Arsenal's League Cup success: 2 League cups. Arsenal's community/charity shield success: 12 community/charity shield cups Arsenal's Uefa Cup success: 1 Arsenal's European Cup Winners Cup success: 1 So all in all Arsenal have managed 39 trophies. Let's look at Tottenham now: Tottenham's League success: 2 Tottenham's FA Cup success: 8 Tottenham's League Cup success: 4 Tottenham's community/charity shield success: 7 Tottenham's UEFA Cup success: 2 Tottenham's European Cup Winners cup success: 1 So all in all Tottenham have managed 24 trophies, now I don't know if Spurs fan's know basic maths, but 39 is much more than 24. Secondly, when it comes to actual major domestic trophies, in the two MAIN trophies, the League and FA Cup, Arsenal dominate Spurs 13-2 in terms of League success, and 10-8 in terms of FA Cup success, for a total of 23-10 when it comes to the top two competitions in the country. But let's not just stop at success, when it comes to a fan base, Arsenal also have a bigger fan base than Spurs, when it comes to a stadium, Arsenal also have a bigger stadium than Spurs, when it comes to finances, Arsenal are richer than Spurs, and when it even comes down to actual head to head count in all matches played between both teams, Arsenal are ahead on that as well. So when it comes down to it, there is NOT ONE SINGLE AREA where Spurs are better than Arsenal, in terms of success, head to heads, fans, stadium, finances etc, NADA. So to sum it all up: Spurs, forever in our shadows.
Er - we know all this. We support Spurs anyway. I would still support Spurs if they never won another match in my lifetime. Success in football is transient. Doesn't mean that we don't currently have a better team though. Let's see how the table looks in May.
I don't think there's any call for this classless gloating. Spurs are still ahead of us and have a great team, also their run in is slightly easier than ours. If we carry on playing the way we are I'm confident we could overtake them but as we have seen in recent weeks, things in football change very quickly.
Well it is mnore fun the other way around - as it was for the first 25 years of my life......I'm hoping for another 25 years now.
suker suker .. you are completly correct of course but it is also worth reminding ourselves that the team who have won the league most at white hart lane is Arsena, this fact is sooo funny its hysterical inducing. some spurs supporters are happy with beating arsenal or finishing above us ..... we are unhappy as were not really challenging for the title anymore which reminds me of what ethos i think truley sets the clubs apart this past 50yrs .... Spurs set their sights low ..... and always hit them Arsenal set their sights high .... and don't hit them (anymore) i know which one i'd rather be ... COYG you don't get silverware for it but 3rd place would be something to give a small cheer for ...
I agree with this. I hate this sort of thread, whether that be baiting a team before a match or pre-empting before the end of the season. Can we just wait until May?
As I've said all along there is nothing in it between Spurs or Arsenal, or even now us. You could stick a needle in it. Football has always been cyclical. Arsenal have a very young fanbase, many of them won't remember the days pre-Wenger or even pre-George Graham when Spurs were at least as good as Arsenal if not better. That isn't their fault though that's just life, Liverpool fans are the same, they would have you believe football didn't exist pre-mid 70s or post 1990
This thread just shows how small time Arsenal have become. Spuds are better than you at the moment, and if they can keep their top players will be better than you for some time. It's hard, but you really need to come to terms with it. Threads like these are just a cringeworthy attempt to cling onto the good old days.
Pretty sure you're a WUM but I'll bite. Tottenham have a very good squad and have had a great season and it could be argued that at the moment they are the better team. (highly debatable IMO) However, considering the result a couple of weeks back and the resurgence of Arsenal as our injuries have lessened it is ludicrous to suggest that if they keep their players they will be better than us for some time, You think we'll be completely inactive on the transfer front? You think our young promising players will not improve? I think with a bit of luck our future looks very bright indeed!
I'm going on past form for Arsenal's transfer activities. Promising young players? The ever injured Wilshere, who else?
Wilshere (one freak injury, coming back soon), Oxlade-Chamberlain, Coquelin, Frimpong, Campbell, Miyachi
One injury? Oxlade Chamberlain has taken to Prem football with ease. Gibbs has the chance to actually put a string of games together. Theo is still in his early 20's. Szcesz is playing at a ridiculously consistent level for someone so young, especially in his position. Suker covered the rest. Really silly comment.
How are you right? You just said that Arsenal have no promising young players besides Wilshere but were then proved wrong with complete ease.
Arsenal so small time; 60k every week and 15 years in Europe. Birm City are small time; Leicester have taken and sold their full 6000 allocation to the Bridge in one hour for a Sunday game. No excuses unlike City, only 3k for Sat 3pm kick off.
