Hey guys swans fan here, some interesting points made on this thread. But I would like to point out that our squad is basically the team that promoted with some slight tweaking...
Our keeper De Vries left us for wolves so the signing of vorm was forced (what a revelation!!)
We originally signed caulker as cover, but due to monk getting injured and Tate breaking his leg he forced his way into the first team, the rest of the defence - Rangel, Williams, Taylor, all from last year.
Our midfield has 1 change from last year, that's dobbie out and sig in.. Britton, Allen, Sinclair and dyer all from last year.
Then due to borini only being on loan last season and us not being able to sign him, we managed to pick up graham.
Yes we have strengthened our bench with the likes of routledge and lita but from our actual first team we've only made 4 changes, 3 of which were forced.
    All the best lads.

We sold Gorkss and signed Perone. The backbone of our Championship winning defence for a no name Brazilian who played once, was dropped and never re-surfaced.

No-one to date has been able to explain that one to me.

Yeah that Perone was a strange one. Probably the first sign of Warnock losing his marbles.

This is purely conjecture (and not what I would have done Wubba) but I think that Hall and Gabbidon were initially Warnock’s first choice pairing. Gorkss was therefore sold to raise the money to buy DJ Campbell, with Perone signed to fill when injury or suspensions required. Then Fernandes bought the club, Ferdinand was signed and Perone slipped down the pecking order, probably behind the utility of Connolly.

I must admit that I didn’t think that Gorkss would be fast enough for the Premier League, but Clint Hill and destroyed that argument. We certainly could have done with his grit and determination from time to time!

    It's the same squad/team Swords
The Swansea team have just got better at what they did and that's play great football .... I can say that now as the results are there in plain site.

It's in the past so we move on plus none of us can do **** all about it

When we played Swansea they were growing and now they have grown by not fixing something that wasn't broke

It has made me sick on this forum with the rubbish pumped about

I said QPR 8th hope swans get it now and my lesson about that and my three tiered league is shown to be right in the end

I may be mad in most eyes but I know my football

Utter utter ridiculousness. This is getting painful to keep pointing out to you Oddball so I'm only doing it one more time. Swansea and Norwich both invested in their squads during the summer which is what EVERY team must do upon winning promotion.

Our team from last season would have been butchered like our opening game against Bolton. There's been plenty of teams that have come up and tried to do it with their Championship team and got embarrassed (Watford, Derby, Sunderland etc). Your 8th placed prediction was insane as everyone agreed at the time. I predicted 19th and I'll stick with that. Pity though because big Tony has done everything he could for the Club but its just not worked out.

Oh and Oddball, you also said Taarabt would tear the league up and the useless dick hasn't even scored one goal! Have a day off would ye?

Plenty of time for Taarabt to come good ... It must be good for you to see as doing so well as we are one place higher than your prediction

Invested in what ? Norwich got Morrison and a defender and Swans got at the time an unknown goalie Danny Graham and WR who was on loan to us

If your theory was in anyway right which my friend it's not why are TWO teams doing so well ...

The bottom half of the league is full of teams which aren't as good as the teams on the up in the championship and this is basically the facts

Your opinion is very negative Swords and dreadfully fickle

Look at the current table and you will see exactly what I was on about ... Any team in the middle group could come 7th so my opinion about us finishing 8th was always realistic ... I never said 6th or 7th did I? Why ? It's the hardest thing to do to break into the top League

Interested to hear who thinks will finish 8th now?

    I won't give in until it's impossible

Swords you only have to pray we FTP a place ... What the **** are you supporting us for ? ... There seems like point ?

    Interested to know

Will we come back again next year then? ... I need to know so I can plan my fishing holidays in Ireland

****ing 19th what dirt of thing is that
You should have your todger horse whipped at Loftus Road then taken down to a club I know in Kemptown for a game of guess the fruit

No swords it's not the exact same team but the core of the squad remains the same. 3 out of 4 defenders and 4 out of 5 midfielders. I think it's a teams nucleus that makes them strong. I look at man utd's midfield and I'm always baffled to how they do so well with what seems a very average midfield, but then other teams probably say the same about us.

Perhaps we need a "If You Knew Then What You Know Now, What Would You Do Differently?" thread!

Of course, there would be no guarantee that the outcome would be any better - it might have turned out worse, but we'll never know - but here's my six initial thoughts (which largely agrees with many of the other posters on this thread...

    1. Kept hold of Kaspars

    2. Not signed Barton

    3. Really 'bigged' Taarabt up, put him on a pedestal and tell him that I was going to continue to build the team and style around his guile

    4. Probably would have kept Warnock. Yeah, I know, I know... I thought it was the right thing to do when he left, but are we really any better off now? The only real vindication of the decision to replace him with Spunky will be if we stay up, so my jury is out until then.

    5. Not wasted my time signing Dyer (remember him?), DJ (remember him?) and Bothroyd (remember him?).

    6. Given much of the 2010/11 team more time to adapt to the Premier League - look at what a skeleton first team did at Goodison, for example. It is very possible that that team could have at least grabbed draws in games where we've been beaten, e.g. Sunderland, Norwich, Fulham, Bolton.

Which is what I said time and again pre-season. Keep the best players and add 6 or so to make the step up.

Don't go making promises you can't keep now Oddball :emoticon-0115-inlov

Calling Swords "dreadfully fickle", are you morphing into Jane Austen DT?

Oh, yes, that too. There was the makings of a very good understanding between him and Taarabt.
