By the way, did Russia not invade Afghanistan?

I think I read that somewhere.

Come on Dev, that's a strawman argument and you know it. The US/UK did not invade Afghanistan to allow women there to be able to have the rights that those in the west have.

When does the invasion of Saudi start? Are they allowed to drive a car yet?

Yes I often toss and turn in a fitful sleep of an evening worrying about that and Afghanistan in general.

Yeah but you put it across as one of the reasons, or benefits.

Anyway, when's the invasion of our friends the Saudis start?

    A very different war.

They posed a very real and present threat to Russias borders. Russia is close to Afghanistan you see. Anyway, nice to see America/Israel/Canada et al support the overthrow of another functioning government by supporting the mujadeen (spelling?) and allowing the precursor of the Taleban to take control of the country <doh>

It is a benefit I believe, maybe it was'nt the prime or even a major reason but it became one when it became apparent.

Ach the Saudis, they have too much cash, they can basically do what they like and they are so far up the Yanks arses they'd need a tractor to pull them out.

Come on Jacky, Afghanistan was a "training Ground" for the Russians, that was why they stayed so long. Afghanistan was no threat to them whatsoever, it was a convenient excuse to test men and new equipment in a real world exercise.

wouldn't be surprised if half the "rebels" in Syria were Al Qaeda or other terrorist operants. Its not like its a secret that they were operating in Libya, incidentally another functioning government that the US overthrew to leave the country as a complete sesspit, mark my words it will be chaos

I don't really care that much about anyone but myself and mine, but I do know right from wrong, and that bullies have to get slapped now and again.

I don't particulary care who does the slapping either.

    Let me get this right.
Invading Afghanistan to remove the Taliban - wrong.
Not invading Zimbabwe to remove Mugabe - wrong.

    What?

No, they were defending an incumbent communist government from a US/israeli supported overthrow. Bit of a strange training ground to send your helicopters into places where the combatants have the latest American SAMs etc. Bit strange to observe very honorable ToEs having 9 of your MiGs shot out of the sky without returning fire by the Pakistan AF when they could have reduced their entire military and AF to rubble if they wanted

No. The point was made that if Afghanistan was invaded to help the poor down trodden people then why was the same treatment not dished out to Zimbabwe. Basicaly saying that the reasons for the invasions were false.

They don't! Al Qaeda are a semi-autonomous CIA operation. Any terrorist attacks are the result of the actions of any number of smaller collective groups. No such group of autonomous multinational terrorists exists
