I believe we have bought the players to bulk up the squad and add much needed quality - people can harp on about carroll, hendo, downing and adam but if these players become more squad based (I know we have spent a lot of money on them but it's not like we're piling it on as debt) then we would have a lot of strength in depth. Our defence is sound, we just need to work on our attacking players and get more consistency in starting line ups as its no good chopping and changing the midfield 4/5 every week.
I really don't want to be rude but when you start your piece with you "spent £35 on Caroline and £15 on Suarez" then I can't take the rest seriously. Hate to burst your bubble but there is nobody on the Sunderland squad that is even good enough to take a place in our squad.
I think we need a centre midfield as established as our back 4. We then need to have an idea of who replaces who when injuries happen. This is the spine of the team. I like having two deep lying midfielders dictating play. Lucas is the obvious choice, but who plays with him? I like Gerrard further forward, Henderson still needs experience, and Adam is risky defensively. I feel Spearing could do the job possible, and we could sign a back up to Lucas. Or we sign some one to play next to Lucas and Spearing backs up Lucas. Lucas-----Spearing (new)-----(Henderson) or Lucas---------New (Spearing)--(Henderson) I think Adam could do well played further forward.
I'd take Sessongnon, Larrson and (even though he is a ex-manc) Campbell at present. All three would 100% improve our squad, the first two would arguably improve our first team too.
If Lucas is in there then I would have no problem with the other being one or Henderson, Spearing or Shelvey. All three need an expereinced head alongside them and IMO Lucas is now that person for us.
We need 1) a shed load of money 2) a better manager 3) rid of Adam, Lucas, Skrtel, Downing, Henderson, Shelvey, Carragher, Spearing, Kuyt and the Donkey 4) to replace the above with better players All the above are obvious. Until the above conditions are met, we cannot qualify for the CL. This season or any other. ps. Do NOT sign Aquilani. He was sh*te the first time round. And he still is.
In the words of yer man on Catchphrase, "It's good but it's not right". Ergo...................................... ............................................FAIL <ok<
So what you're saying is...you need to play Football Manager and hack the database. Yep, that would probably work...except you seem to want to sell two of your best players...
Clueless if you think we'd even consider selling Skrtel, Lucas, Spearing and Shelvey...Henderson also
I think we do need to spend a bit but not crazy amounts of money. We need a striker (that actually scores goals) and we need an out and out winger that goes past people and gets it on the box and maybe one more squad player.
Be careful what you wish for last year you bought Henderson we kept Colback You bought Adam we got Vaughan In both cases we got the right end of those deals. I bet at the time you were happy with the Adams signing, less so about Henderson but still thinking it was going in the right direction. Signings don't always come off. I always thought of Liverpool as a club who brought good local talent through and you have Stevie G for one, however the focus seems to be more about who to bring in now looking for quick fixes and unless you have silly money that will be a short term answer not a stable long term resolution to your problems. I do hope you get it right as I would much rather have you lot above the Mancs of either colour!
"n the words of yer man on Catchphrase, "It's good but it's not right". Ergo......................................" What's Catchphrase?
If that list contains two of our "best players" - we are in much more trouble than I thought we were!!
Adam was an average player at Rangers, which is why he went to a second-rate team (Blackpool). He is still an average player. We need players of a much higher calibre. Especially in midfield where most games are decided. With SG as an obvious exception, the rest of our midfield is simply not good enough. All the other teams above us in the PL, have vastly superior midfield players. The defence (once we get rid of that sheep-in-wolfs-clothing, Skrtel) is sound. Although my view of Coates is still pending - so far it's not looking good. Let's see what we can recoup from the most ridiculous signing since Ngog; and buy a half-decent striker to partner Suarez. As for Shelvey and Spearing.......please don't get me started!
