Spurs have sought to be a big club since 1961, and still they seek.

How about their title challenge in 84.5.

Or diamond jubilee European Cup appearance in 2011.

As I've said before, there is no such thing as a 'big' club really, only a successful one and success is transient.

However the phrase 'big club' implies taking account of history: Taking all history Spurs are the bigger club but Chelsea have closed the gap recently.

Fair point. Globally and in Europe, CHelsea have a much bigger profile now.

    Domestically too maybe??

Yes - on all current measures (except today's league position), Chelsea are the bigger club. But Ginger said 'Spurs have sought to be a big club since 1961, and still they seek.' Until 1995 at least, Spurs were far ahead. Taking all history, Chelsea may just have caught up. Hopefully we will be drawing ahead again from now on.....

Big club isn't just based on what you win. Spurs were never "far ahead" bar maybe a brief spell in the 80s.

Chelsea are probably slightly better than Spurs now or on par, but in terms of club size Chelsea are far bigger now and have been for about a decade <ok>

    Fair point.

    Chelsea bigger 20s, 30s, 40s.

    About the same 50s, 60s, 70s.

    Spurs bigger early 60s, 75-95?

    Chelsea bigger 95-xx

    Is that reasonable?

I don't really know before the 50s but Spurs won the Cup in the 20s and I suspect both were way behind Arsenal in the 30s. Otherwise I'd say Spurs were definitely 'bigger' throughout the 60s and would agree eveywhere else. Not sure why it matters though.

Yes I am, Given our squad in the mid-late 60s and early 70s we should have won a lot more than we did <ok>
