On the back of your post I found this video. Here's Rickie talking about maybe playing in the Championship, when he was 27, with Bristol Rovers. I find it almost unbelievable that another club didn't snaffle him before we came in for him: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8028366.stm

Well, earlier in their careers, Grant Holt and Rickie were a strike pairing. That's not too shabby, either.

Do you really think so..? I think he looks ok.

Agreed on that. Now he looks like he could do with a dinner of two extra. For the average person, I mean. Not the athlete, of course.

Huddersfield might have got close to signing him, but add to the losers those clubs who simply dismissed his talents in the past. Pardew was clearly a good judge of a footballer. TBF he was buying him to play in a league where he had already had an impact, but Pardew and Adkins have created an amazing footballer. His signing is up there with Liebherr's decision to buy as one of the things I ponder on if I want to reflect on how well things have gone since 2009.

He's not just a great footballer, he's a top person as well. One who when he retires (many many years from now), when you see him on tele you'll get a little warm glow & remember how fortunate we were to have him.

He made the right decision moving sideways to a League 1 club with ambition...now less than 3 years later he is on the verge of the PL after enjoying 3 great seasons with us. As for his weight, he turned sideways in a video on the OS and practically disappeared. Stomach flat as a board. An all round (pardon the expression) great bloke.
