I've said a few times we weren't that bad, and Wigan played very well and that we really had their goal under siege towards the end. It's just our 'fans' who turned up expecting a thrashing who don't think so.
Agreed. We did allow them too much time on the ball from about the 20th minute onwards, which gave them the confidence they needed. If we had of put them under pressure and not allowed them time on the ball, things may of been different. Impressed with Wigan, and especially Maloney when he came on.
By the way, I think Wigan played well. Although perhaps we let them back into the game. I think if we had gone for it after we scored they might have crumbled. We seemed to sit back and let them play their way back into the game. Hindsight is easy of course.
One thing that has baffled me is why he hasn't gone back to having pilks and surman in the middle of the diamond. Up until Leicester it was working a treat, since then though look whats happened! Why start with crofts today, he hasn't played in the last 5 games? Pilks all day long now. He's been playing well in that position.
It's all very well saying look how far we've come, but we can't keep going on about it. We are a premier league club, and we should be focusing on the present. Yes, we have done fantastically well, but we can't just keep saying how well we've done in the past. We'll end up sounding like the binmen... As for the game, we were poor today and if Wigan had been half decent, we would have lost. But that doesn't surprise me tbh. Look at the games we've expected to win comfortably in the past couple of years (doncaster, portsmouth, hull etc). We've struggled in them. But having said all that, we are still 12th and still 14 points clear of the bottom three with 10 games left. Stay positive!
My last post tonight, I promise, and then I'm off to bed. I've seen all five relegation candidates over the weekend and I think Wigan might survive. They have a very hard run-in, but Bolton and QPR were truly dire in their game, and Wolves don't look too hot either. Bolton have the easiest run-in by far, but the win over QPR was lucky. Not very nice, I know, but I really want QPR to go. Partly because of Joey Barton, partly because they lied when they said that Johnson had 'gone down' after the Glasgow kiss, partly because of schadenfreude since their fans were so superior to us and Swansea when they were buying 'premiership quality players'. Disappointed we're below Swansea now. I like them, actually, because they've tried to do things the right way (like us), but I get a bit sick of pundits creaming themselves about Swansea being a Welsh Barcelona and then assuming we are an East Anglian Stoke. And we outplayed them. Not outfought them. Outplayed them. And got no credit for it.
Completely agree. Yes we've come far, but we can't keep banging on about it. We're still having an excellent season, but today we played poorly (I must stress that I didn't, and shall never, boo however). A point's a point though, and you can't see us not making 40 now. Let's just hope the last two games have been a blip. Wigan were good, by the way, but it's clear why they're bottom - they can't finish! It's not an exaggeration either way to say we could have lost 4-1 or drawn 4-4 today. Both 'keepers were excellent and it was them who kept the score down.
TBF - the boo's were aimed at the ref - at least that's how I interpreted it from in the Jarrold stand. He was truly attrocious today and PL did well not to mention him. I didn't seem to me that there was a lack of effort today, just a lack of concentration and luck. Jackson had everything about him today apart from shooting straight and Morro looked sh*t hot when he came on, which after the last time I saw him vs Leicester was refreshing to say the least. Well hapy with the point.
I can't be bothered to troll through 108 pages to see if its been said before but at the risk of being hounded by the NCFC can do no wrong brigade, I have to say we were awful today and look to be getting worse. We were poorer than against Stoke who are a much better team than Wigan if less pleasing on the eye. Wigan are a lightweight outfit who have won 4 times this season and have scored marginally more than Holt and Morison combined. And they completely dominated us until PL realised he had got it wrong again and brought on Bennet and Pilkington. Until then the only attempt on target had been the goal. John Ruddy performed heroics against a sterile outfit playing away from home. That can't be right. Drury, Ward, Crofts even Fox looked like they are the Championship/League 1 players they were before. Why did we expose Drury to Moses? With Surman, an attacking midfielder as cover? Why did we allow Wigan to have 7 at the back when they needed it and yet allow them to push 5 forward when they attacked? Why did we take Holt off to accomodate Morison when it cried out for the two of them up front to keep their defensive midfielders in their own box instead of getting up to ours? I could go on but I must admit I am with the guys who say we can't keep harping on about "haven't we done well". If we want to make a fist of it we have to go back to the effort and tactics that got us to safety half way through the season. Thats not disloyalty or not appreciating our effort but we are a Premiership team now and need to start performing like it.
Well I thought we weren't that bad today. Wigan played better than they have been doing, but we didn't do much wrong without excelling. I do think there is an element of fatigue, the guys have been busting a gut since the start of the season and the realisation is that we have to keep doing that even against the weaker teams and that is exhausting. Every game for us is a cup final.
Vietnam, this three line post is possibly the best thing I've read or heard this season You should get a job on 'Have I got news for you' or similar?
I know it would have been nice to get the win today, but I am happy with the point and we have come out of our 'losing streak'. What I would say is, WE ARE still new to the premier league when you compare us to Wigan who have been playing the top teams in the country for the last six years or so. They have learnt an awful lot more in that time than we have in 28 games. Be prepared for a few more disappointments, because we have still got a lot of learning to do. But we will learn and that will make us stronger for next season.
The pundits do get it wrong sometimes...good as they are, there's no way that Swansea can really be likened to Barcalona!
Morrison to start against the toon in a 451 formation? Sounds like he did well when he came on Does anybody know why jonny howson didn't Make the bench - no other reason than tactics?
I would have said a start and followed by another start or sub appearance would have been too much for someone who has just come back from a bad injury.
