he has to start...as good as Modric and Bale is...VDV has magic in him to unlock a team..when others dont.
I think that he balances the side out nicely too Dona, which is why I'd like to see Kranjcar take his place when he's unavailable. The Croatian's pace and defensive issues wouldn't be a problem in that role, either.

Your best players are modric and VdV. Been saying it for ages. They are both amazing players. And whenever fit they have to play. Sorry but Defoe is just a million miles behind VdV. Its like comparing Bent with RVP
not because he thought Defoe can do VDV's job.....it was probably down to the fact that VDV has had a few weeks off with injury..and being injury prone anyway...it would not have been wise to start him.
Our best players are (in order), IMO:- Modric Bale VDV Lennon Parker Defoe Adebayor Kaboul Any one of those would get in any team in Europe, albeit for the very top teams a couple of them may only make the bench, or be rotated in a squad (something that Harry seems unable to even contemplate). I still believe that the core of our squad is stronger than the Gooners' squad.

I just don't recall when a side set up like us actually won a really major trophy, whereas two defensive midfielders is a well proved strategy: I also think it suits our squad well as we are very strong in midfield and we have cover in all positions if we were set up to play 4231. I also think it would be a more creative formation for us because it means that Modric is free to do damage deep in the opposition half, whereas in the middle of a 4411 he has too many defensive duties. We have to learn how to play it though. You need one of the forward three to go wide, the full backs to overlap and one of the defensive two to cover on the other side of the wide man. Best of all worlds I think. Having two wide players doesn't work against a well set up opponent because they flood the midfield so the wingers never get the ball.
Funny cos this is true. Yet the media want harry for england even when they spent the world cup summer complaining capello played 4-4-2 otherwise we would of won the world cup. Which is exactly what Harry is doing at spurs. Bizzare.
So everyone keeps saying. The problem is that we've conceded exactly the same number of goals this year as at the same time last year. This despite Benny playing better, King playing a lot, Kaboul and Walker having come on and having at least one, and sometimes two proper holding midfielders. We know 4-4-1-1 Is our best formation. Harry says its only Lennon and Bently who can play on the right, Dos Santos has played there for Mexico. So why not; Friedel Walker--Kaboul--King--Benny Dos Santos--Modric--Parker--Bale VdV Ade

Not working hard as much as he used to 2, trying flicks and big cross field passes rather thasn running at oppositon 3, diving and rolling around like a pussy 4, drifting off the flank and trying to play like zidane rather than doing what he is good at i.e. running at a full back and getting the ball in 5, general body language at all times
I agree with your last line HIAG but only Modric, Bale and VdV would make it into the very best teams and Lennon and Defoe would not get near their squads. We've still got a long way to go to have eight players at high CL level
Its not cocky if you can back it up mate. And people like thierry did work hard. And they earnt to right to be cocky. Bale's cockiness is preventing his development. I would get rid of him.
