Who would be your ideal coaches?

  1. If you had to pick 4 new coaches, 1 for striking, midfield, defensive and goal keeping, which four would you pick in a few years time?

Goal Keeping coach - Steve Harper

Defensive - Sol Campbell (He's lost his touch but he was once a brilliant player, and has a heck of alot of knowledge)

    Midfield - Paul Scholes

Striking - Alan Shearer (When Mike Ashley leaves)

Think Shearer's ego is too big to only be a coach, he'll get a manager's job somewhere in the next couple of years. Scholes will probs stay on at Man U if he wants a coaching job, but good former players if that's what you wanted.

Kuqi? I know he's experienced [read: old] but he's never performed outstanding in my personal opinion anyway.

Would have Paul Barron back as Keeper coach or failing him Pav, Hughton as defensive coach, Solano as Midfield, and keep Pedro as strikers coach.

Would Shearer really want a go at managing again? He seems fairly comfortable with his punditry work at the moment and probably wouldn't want to go back to the hassle of management.

Good point, I heard he lost nearly 2 stone while managing us because of the stress. I still think he'd like to have another go if Southampton or someone came calling.

I was thinking more for his attitude, he'd be a good professional role model for the kids and his life experience would help give the academy players perspective, that they are priveleged to be playing football, even if they don't make it at the top level.

GK: keep who we have as he's done well in the past with given and Harper plus we have Forster and Krul. Shows a good knowledge of his section.

DF: Campbell is a good shout and his wife is from the NE and he moved here to be with her.

That was Barron, who got sacked when Hughton did. Remains to be seen how Woodman will do.

Definitely Rob Lee for midfield. Nobby was ace but you can't train that kind of skill, certainly not to twenty-somethings. Maybe send him round primary schools for small scale games, train the next Brazilians in Benwell...

Sounds fair, to be honest I probably picked my coaches based on the guidance they'd give to the youth.

Roeder for his kindness and patience with younger players
Butt for his passion and leadership skills
Kuqi for his professionalism and ability to keep the kids grounded

    <ok>

  16. I don't understand why some people think Shearer had and/or has a big ego. He make think he's too big to be just a coach, and i don't blame him. He's probably our all time best player and a hero that was committed to the club and was loved by the fans. I'm not saying he would have stayed on for low wages, no footballer is that loyal, but he did have the option, twice, to go to Man United, where he could have much more and earned alot more also.

He's not a big headed, arrogant twat like some people make him out to be. He's got a high opinion of himself and deservedly so, and he has done more than enough for the club to have opinions on it and still be a big part of it.

I couldn't help but laugh when he refused to wear that Sunderland shirt for comic relief. I've met him twice, and seen more than enough to know he's decent bloke and nothing short of a legend.

Anyways, what's important these days are players that show passion and work hard, that's all you can hope for. Shearer gave that.

National Express would be my pick and some of the smaller companies are cheaper but I'll stick with them.

If people want to keep our current striking coach they have problems. Ours strikers perform ****e. Clearly not being coached well.

For me the goalkeeping coach would have to be Simon Smith. He was our goalkeeping coach under Sir Bobby, working with Shay and Steve Harper, and the guy is brilliant.
I cannot understand why people seem to think that good players will automatically make good coaches. So many of the top coaches and managers were not top players. Man Utd's goalkeeping coach, for example, is our very own Eric Steele. Great coach, but not exactly a legend as a player.
