The main problem to me is Yann. Now I absolutley love Yann - the only way he could endear himself more to me would be if he could kick a Palace fan. But since December - when we realised he never loses a header - we haven't really played well. We've become quite route one. When we are 1-down or under the cosh we just lump it to him without thinking. The knock on effect has been BWP playing awful and our midfield redundant. We can't play long ball against League 1 teams; yesterday they had Chilvers, Stewart, Mahon and Bishop who just dominated us. In the second half for the first 15 minutes - when we scored 2 goals - Kermo was deeper (almost on the wing) and we played some decent football. So I would like to see Yann on the Left Wing of a 5 man midfield with BWP (who only keeps his place because there is no-one else) as a lone striker and JJ moved to the middle. Sullivan Solly Morro Taylor Wiggins Green (Wagstaff is never going near the first team again***) Jacko Russell Stephans Kermit BWP *** There is a reason people don't like Wagstaff - he is ****ing useless. He just hasn't progressed in the last three years. Yes he's scored goals but his allround play is abysmal. He looks like he doesn't go training and all his play is learnt through Pro Evo. He won't cut it in the Championship. And he is a whinger with a rat face.
Wagstaff did play well yesterday and in the second half the use of him to feed BWP and the interplay between Wagstaff, Kermorgant and BWP refocused the side for considerable periods and allowed Yann a bit more room to play. When Green is on the field the rest of the team and Green when he bothers to cross, all look for the head of Yann. Wagstaff looked to see who was in the best position yesterday or tried to run into it himself. That was my only positive out of yesterday that despite the defensive fialures there was a degree more creativity at the front.
waggy was brilliant yesterday (Well, second half anyway). he always plays better with solly. dunno why people give him such grief, at least he cares. and having not played for months, he goes and scores and sets one up. problem yesterday was hamer. thought he'd done it all and was over confident. like him personally, but think dropping him for a game may help him.
I love the myth goin back since waggy first played for us that he cant cross and takes no one on ..rubbish,Green better crosser granted but he gets into the oppositions half and crosses just like Beckham...like a beckham wannabe he never takes anyone on. I`d start waggy v scunny and at least always have him on the bench as an impact player cant believe he isnt in the squad most weeks
It's not a myth about waggy- he can't cross, and can't take a man on. He can finish and has very good awareness and positional sense. He'd be more suited to a front 3.
I wouldn't call it a conventional cross- but we'll count it for the sake of argument. Now what about the past 2 seasons where his final ball has rarely evaded the first man? Waggy in a front 3 would be perfect. As a right midfielder you just have bundles of energy not being utilised.
I get the impression he does enough to keep the manager happy, a few shots and enough balls into the box, but often more hopeful than measured. A good kick up the jacksie would do him the world of good.
