Okay lads time to either assess our players' futures reasonably or speculate wildly, of our current squad and academy, who do you see still being here in 3 years time, what role will they be playing and in the case of the youngsters, how many of them do you feel have the potential to be playing at a top level (not neccessarily with us)?

We have a number of youngsters breaking into the first team (Ferguson, Ranger, Krul, Kadar...) but a good number who are still difficult to judge, the likes of Tavernier, Lua Lua, Airey. How many of these do you see being part of NUFC's future?

At the other end of the age range, of our older heads, Nolan, Harper, Shola, how much longer do you feel they can perform in the EPL? Will they end their careers here or do like many have in the past and drop down through the leagues just to keep playing?

Will Perch be a valuable member of the squad or will he have retired from football and taken up fly fishing?

    Keep it lively lads. <ok>

    Nothing wrong with Fly fishing.

Harper, Nolan and Shola maybe 2 season left if lucky.

After 70 minutes Nolan look's knackered.

Ferguson will be new star .

    *Not including new signings*

Harper: retired, hopefully coaching for us and one day going into management
Krul/Forster: one will be our number one for the next 15 years, the other will probably leave or if he has no ambition will stay as cover. Confident both will be capped for their countries at some point.

Simpson: still our starting right back, in the best years of his career
Colo: age 31, still has the quality to start for us for a year or two at this stage, might go back to Spain for the twilight years of his career
Kadar: partnering and eventually replacing Colo
Williamson: cover because Kadar will overtake him in terms of ability IMO
Saylor: might have left at frustration at not starting more games, that or cover/competition for the first choice 2
Enrique: if he signs a new contract then starting for us as he is now, renowned as the best/one of the best LBs in the league
Raylor and Perch: moved on, Raylor possibly still here as cover but unlikely

Barton: hopefully will sign a new deal and still starting, will only be 31. Captain as well IMO.
Tiote: in his peak, even better than he is now, the team is built around him
Nolan: wont have left, often starts on the bench having been displaced in the starting XI by Vuckic
Vuckic: breaks through, have high hopes for him, he looks really good
Ben Arfa: peaking and one of the better players in the division, key player for us if we hold onto him
Jonas: similar to Nolan, more coming off the bench than starting but probably still with us, and still a useful player to have
    Smith: sold/retired anyway
Guthrie: depends how he takes his chance, most likely against Wolves. Dont know but unlikely to be a consistent starter either way
Ferguson: if he follows up these encouraging performances he will be a very good winger and will displace Jonas in the starting XI in a few seasons

Best: still with us, 3rd choice behind new signings/Ranger but a decent player to have
Ranger: starts regularly and key player for us (this is if he becomes the player he can be)
Shola, Lover, Kuqi: retired, Shola might still be here playing in the reserves

Not including new signings, I think this would be great in a few years:

    ---------------------Forster
    Simpson-------Kadar-------Colo-------Enrique
    -------------Barton(c)-----Tiote
    Ben Arfa-------------Vuckic----------Ferguson
    ---------------------Ranger**

**New signing will more likely be there, but IMO Ranger will overtake Best in terms of ability in a few seasons

That's a rather glowing review for our younger players Smudger, if that's the case where do you see NUFC competing in the league?

This is if they become they players they promise to be, and as I said not including any new signings it's difficult to put together a team given that the older ones have to leave or are too old to start every game.

But I would certainly like to see us in the top 10 in three years, with a real chance of getting into Europe every season, like Everton and Villa used to be a few years ago. All depending on how we use the 35mil.

Spot on. You deserve rep! rep failed unfortunately.

I think in the space of three years many things can happen : New signings, new outgoings, contract disputes, etc..

But I'll like that line-up that Smudger displayed.

My personal team in three years would be :

    Krul
    Simpson Colo Kadar/New CB Enrique
    Barton Tiote
    Gervinho Vargas Ben Arfa
    Best/Ranger.

Where will our players be in 3 years time?

If they keep on playing the way they did yesterday, hopefully they'll all be out the door!

Except young Ferguson of course, who I hope gets tied down to a long contract.

    barton captain,
    harper goalkeeping coach,
ferguson and vuckic realised their potential and playing regular
enrique world class and still here, likewise tiote,
Ben arfa the brilliant creative player we all think he is now and injury free
jonas still here playing from the bench, same nolan.
hopefully young airey making waves in the first XI,
sol hopefully in the coaching setup (god help us if he's still playing!!!!)
Colo still at the top of his game,
Ranger by then should have realised that he needs to put the round thing in the rectangular doofer and be a top player,
best a very capable squad player, same steven taylor.
Simpson gained some consistency and be a real top quality RB.

And with any luck fat mike counting his cash after selling the club to some loaded middle eastern type and just about to complete his takeover of sunderland AFC (5-1)

    Carlsberg don't do predictions......<ok>

I think it would be useful if this author could decide on the parameters that he wants - 3 or 5 years? <whistle>...
