With 12 games left, how many points do you think we need to get in the top 6. Last season 3rd & 4th had 80 (Yes you can hear me screaming) 5th 77 and 6th 75. We have 54 now 7 Home games should get us a minimum of 15 5 Away games we might get 6 Will 75 be enough like last year ? Thoughts.
75 should be enough but looking at the remaining fixtures I see no reason why we cant at least match last years total. That maybe blind optimism though. On paper is a different game altogether
Altho not much was expected this season with all the so called "BIG" players moving on we do seem to have a better team than last season and MM has done wonders. Reading on a roll at the moment and we could see Southamptons bubble burst soon ,league very much still open and if at the begining of the season you would have said we are a top eight side most of us would be happy ,as i stated we have a better team than last season and if we get to the playoffs this time i have no worrys we can handle the situation better ,as we all know and have seen the playoffs are a lottery............;o)
JH,gonna disagree with you on the Saints front, I think they will continue to lead the way and must be a firm favourite for promotion, they had a blip but I think they can go straight up West Ham should secure 2nd spot. Agree we have a football team now and we should achieve a play off spot anything less is a step back, then bring on the lottery that is the play offs.
Look out! Taffs starting the 'step back' debate again Haven't looked at everyone elses remaining fixtures, but a proper look at ours has firmed up my confidence of a playoff place.
As you I think that only ours count so here they are. Bristol City (A) Hull City (H) Burnley (H) Coventry City (H) Birmingham City (A) Millwall (H) Middlesborough (A) Watford (H) Barnsley (A) Derby County (H) Leeds United (H) Crystal Palace (A)
To make sure of the play offs we probably need 2 points per game for the remaining 12 matches. 78 points will do it. Autos now out of the question so here we go again in the play off lottery. I think there will be less pressure to succeed this time and it may be better for us.
75 points has been enough in all of the last 8 seasons (even 70 did it once - but not this year). Whether we will get 75 is another matter. Can you really see us getting over two points a game from the last 12 matches? Simply, this requires winning games, not just drawing them. We're not built for winning this year, and can't hold a lead when we get it. We have to play Boro and Brum away! Oops. If we scrape into 6th I'll be a very happy chappie.
I think we will get 20 points over the remaining games. It will be very very tight. We need to get a striker in form if we are going to get there. It is all about Kenny I think.
We've done pretty well away at the 'big' clubs in the division. Our home form will be the key and our home games look very winnable to me.
Hull City (H) 1 Burnley (H) 3 Coventry City (H) 3 Birmingham City (A) 0 Millwall (H) 3 Middlesborough (A) 0 Watford (H) 3 Barnsley (A) 1 Derby County (H) 3 Leeds United (H) 3 Crystal Palace (A) 1 54 + 21 = 75 Simples
rt0p - after Hull, you've got us winning all our home games mate. knowing us, I bet we'll have a blip with at least one of those. Having said that, I reckon we'll get a win on the road and get something at either Brum or Boro, maybe spring a surprise and take points off both. I'm going for 80 points - and I don't care where they come from.
We will get the points required for the play offs its who we play that will be interesting, Granted no game is easy in this league but our run in is looking a lot better than some of the team in the play offs. Birmingham and Boro away look to be the hardest of the games but as others have said we are bound to have a blip at home against a couple of teams. So im going for for 78 points and the lottery of the play offs.
