Hi, I think in the summer we have to use our financial and historical power to bring in 2 players who can really make a different and inspire the team. Even with out champions league football, we can attract some players. I think these need to be players who can attack, lead by example and get among the goals. A midfielder who gets in the box will help a lot. Man City signed Silva, Toure and Teves with out Champions League, and it done a lot for them. What Dalglish did last summer was good, restoring some britishness, but we have to make sure we take the right step next.
The Man City players went there because they paid astronomical wages and had good players, you just cannot compete with the wages they give out, so don't expect a similar story.
Man City had money pouring out of their empty trophy cabinet to throw at players with disgustingly high wages. We don't. What we need to do, is use our youth more. Young players have a confidence that older players tend not to have and that's one of the biggest things we lack. One or two young forwards rotated in towards the end of this season plus a solid pre-season and that'll be a start.
We have already thrown cash at it...if you want to throw anything...throw Adam out. He can drive Kenny back up to Scotland.
The fact remains, if you want to sign Players of that quality, and you have neither the money Citeh had, or Champions League Football, you won't be getting them. Your history is wonderful. But meaningless to today's top Players.
Pretty much. I have massive hopes for some of our youth though and I think, like United in the 90s, this can really push us forward in the next two years as they mature into the first team.
Not necessarily true, they are very hard to find but if you have a good scouting system and are prepared to be patient then they are available. Tottenham are living proof of that! Generally agree with your point though.
I believe that we will spend money in the Summer. What I doubt that we will do is go and spend astronomical sums for marquee players. We all know that we are work in progress. Progress has most definitely been made and our squad is probably the strongest that we've had for a long time. We therefore now need to concentrate upon adding to the quality of that squad. If any BIG money has to be spent then it must surely be on the acquisition of a goalscorer. However, it has to be one who can fit into our style of play. Perhaps now Kenny feels that he will have the freedom to blood more of our young players.
No we didn't...35mill total summer spend isn't what I'd call throwing cash. The 3mill net spend in January wasn't really tearing the purse strings either
All we need are two players of real quality, one Center Midfielder and one Striker. With that i believe we could quite comfortably get top 4, our performances this season have very rarely been as turgid as today, most weeks i have said we really should have won. Personally i believe that no money has to even be spent on the cm position, IF Aquilani returns. I may be wrong, we saw he did struggle in the Premier League two seasons ago but so did David Silva-look at him now. Yes i understand they are very different players but Aqua-mans form for AC Milan has been very good and would, with the injured Lucas, help to improve what looks at this moment in time to be a very poor midfield. Adam could be a bench warmer (i think that's the best we could ever expect of him) and we could sell Spearing (if anyone would ever want to buy the gremlin faced useless twat). A striker however may be a big issue, i posted earlier saying i wanted Tevez, and he would be a wonderful signing if we had the cash to pay his extortionate wages however i fear we don't. We need someone to make the "Torres" runs in behind the defenders, as i believe that would work brilliantly with Suarez. Without Champions League football players like Cavani, Tevez, Gomez probably won't be interested but there are other players out there- Yarmolenko, Barrios etc.
A half decent scout would help, instead of throwing tens of millions at any English player that has a couple of good games. Dreadful way to go in the transfer market Liverpool/ Kenny.
We spent £35 mill on Carroll in January - LAST January - and £20 mill + on Downing, Suarez et al. We've been throwing cash since Kenny took over. The point is if we're going to throw cash we need to spend it on better players than the ****e we have spent it on. Do you know what, I don't ****in' care any more...
You've allowed your hearts to rule your heads with KK. He has blown nearly £80m on caroll, Henderson, downing and Adam and you would give him even more? I wouldn't let him put a quid on a two horse race in case he backed the wrong one, never mind buy more players.
