It's all rather unsatisfactory and being allowed to slip away. Nothing's gonna change, unless someone shows some leadership.
I'm not going to criticise City for the sake of it. Today we got two goals so I see that as a positive step forward and hopefully a sign that we're getting on top of our major weakness.. The defence let us down but to be fair it's the first time we can say that in a long time. As frustrating as these draws are no team can go out and manufacture a result, all they can do is play their best and hope all the individual parts come together.
We needsome help from refs at some point. Every little thing went their way today. If he's happy to give a penalty to them he has to give our two more obvious ones. Yet again Fryatt was thrown around like a rag doll today and got no protection yet it was a free kick against him every time someone went down near him. You can say that doesn't matter but when one of them leads to a penalty it's a pretty big deal.
I wouldn't say the defence let us down today as a team we just didn't really come out second half. They scored a penalty which whilst it was dangerous play he had no idea someones head was there so it was as accidental as an accidental hand ball so for a pen to be given was harsh. The other goal was screamer that Mannone should probably have done better with. Stewart needed bringing off long before he did he had an absolute stinker once again. What concerns me is the fact that Ipswich were well on top from the start of the second half yet Barmby changed nothing, absolutely nothing.
In what way did the defence let us down? They were doing fine until some clown decided to try a scissor kick in a crowded penalty area. He's a nice lad, but he isn't, nor will he ever be, a Championship player.
It was a penalty, i don't get how kicking someone in the head isn't a penalty. I also want to know what Mclean thought he was doing? It was absolutely stupid..... Our bench really worries me, we don't have a single midfielder on there, nor anyone who can really change a game.
I can only go by the radio commentary (which for all I know might have been completely wrong) but they said Leadbitter probably should have been closed down more for the second. The first sounded a bit harsh, but when I say defence I mean the team defending as a unit and today it seemed we invited them onto us more in the second half.
King looked the best player on the pitch when he came on, it's a shame he came came on about an hour later than he should have done.
We were effectively playing with ten men, Stewart might as well not have been there and with Brady off at half time, we weren't pinning them beck enough.
thought we played quite well 1st half, but fell to pieces after the penalty, in all honesty we bottled it.. the fact we spent the very last few seconds passing it around when it was obvious the whistle was going to go any second was a blood boiling moment, im all for patience etc, but if ever there was a time to lump it in the mixer that was it.. once again the league table somehow seems to say we are still in a decent position, but youve got to wonder how many chances we are going to get, a 4-6 point haul from 2 away games this week to stand a realistic chance imo
I thought Fryatt did well in the first half, definitely looked a threat, Koren was decent and yes King was good for the few minutes he was on. Only real disappointment was Stewart, he just didn't seem in the game at all, no pace, no interest, just not on his game at all. This is a shame as I do think he is a very talented young player - maybe he needs a couple of games rest. It wasn't the worst result in the world and we are only two points behind 6th place, however I think we would need to be lucky to get in the play-offs. I like the Championship anyway..
We don't need to bring anyone in either, the gaffer is happy. Me, I'd have used every loan slot available as scoring goals is still an issue, and the bench isn't strong enough. Look at Ipswich bringing on Bowyer and the left winger.
Defence? How the **** was it the defences fault? I've long been a huge admirer and supporter of McLean but honestly starting to have my doubts. He plays with passion, he runs his arse off but ultimately I dont think hes top 6 pushing for for PL promotion material. As for Stewart, wtf is the matter with him? Id be against putting him out in the reserves let alone the main team.
