other than that back 2the thread tiz a pity our superior so called western style ways has people living on its streets, and all the empty houses and all!!!!!!shame on the government i say
Rubber, the communist states have the same issues as us they just hide it or oppress the people and rig elections, Russia this week for instance. The socialist states had the same problems and look what happened to Yugoslavia. Democracy is not perfect and as I said in an earlier thread the low percentage of people using their vote means we get weak politicians. When the majority vote then just maybe we get a better class of politician. A prime example of the people taking over and ****ing it up is Iraq and Libya, both have already started to implode! Iraqi against Iraqi and Libyan against Libyan both under dictatorships prior to the aforementioned dictators have been overthrown. The UK has 3rd generation benefit claimants and serial fraudsters, a percentage of those on the streets are ex-servicemen and then there are the drug addicts as well. There are no houses for these folks but it is nothing new that the government has failed these folks. Having said that have you been to some of these other countries and seen there living conditions and what they have to put up with? A white guy died in a Kenyan hospital last week. The doctors would not treat him because he had no cash on him so he died? Would that happen in the UK? Women stoned to death in Somalia because she was raped! Disabled people put into state institutions and given the bare minimum food. Families have to provide the food, bedding and clothing for these people, if they don't they do not get help. The disabled are deemed non-productive members of society and go ignored by the government. This happens in Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia to mention a few. What is your answer? What type of society do you want and how will it be achieved? Anarchy? I think not because guess what those at the top will get richer and the poor will get poorer. Shame on the UK government but more shame on those that do not vote out of apathy or because they're too stupid to see what they say counts. If everyone used their vote the politicians will have to step their game up. If they get in because the other parties constituents didn't vote then they are less likely to listen and more likely to do as they please (Blair & Brown). As a footnote, the Falkland Islanders are British. The British army went into Ulster to stop the protestants attacking the Catholics in 1969. It escalated from there. Bobby Sands was a terrorist on hunger strike. Every time a British soldier was killed in Northern Ireland the IRA declared in An Phoblait (spelling) it a legitimate target in the war. The British kill an IRA activist then they print it was murder. Dessie Grew was responsible for the deaths of many servicemen and civilians including the cold blooded murder of a baby in Germany, He walked up to the car and shot the father, the baby in the back seat was then deliberately shot! Dessie Grew is a martyr to the IRA and when he was killed the IRA said he was executed! Make your own mind up rubber, personally I think you are wrong and your bile against anyone in power is driven by your inability to articulate your argument. Fine, you don't like Thatcher but that was how long ago? The ramifications of what she did are compounded by the piss poor performances of all subsequent governments. Wilson, Heath and Callagan before her put the UK in the crap, the UK had a purple patch under Thatcher, then it went tits up again. I do not condone her actions but she did as much harm as good.
The British Empire was a model to the civilized world because there were no other models to speak of , bless them . As for the Falklands , it's basically part of the South American continent so draw your own conclusions on how I feel . My biggest gripe with the British with the Falklands was when they declared a 200 mile no sail zone around the Islands . The British said there was a sub in the area , that wasn't actually there , but the Argentine ships stayed out of the zone . Soon as the sub did arrive , it went outside the 200 mile zone & sunk an Argentine battleship , lying bast@rds .
Theres something wrong with the country when its major cities has people living on its streets. However when small towns like Swansea where everyone knows everyone has this problem then you know its getting really bad. I was a kid under Thatcher - purple patch under her????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Absolute B******s. She destroyed working class communities leaving whole towns and villages with its main source of employment gone. Some parts of the uk benefited while others were left with no hope.
Nothing wrong with this country only the arseholes running it, after working for 40+ years I was made redundant which to be honest I didn't mind to much because of ill health, because I had worked all my life and because of my health I was considered to be unfit for work and put on ESA which gave me approx £85 a week. Yesterday I rec'd a phone call from the DWP informing me that because of the new law passed which now limits the payment for 365 days my money would stop come the 30th April !! So someone who's never contributed to the economy by working a day in their life continues to get funding whilst mine stops with no option of appeal because my wife works more than 24hrs a week, is it just me or is something wrong here.
Hilts, did I say Thatcher was perfect? Economically there was purple patch whether you like it or not. She had a battle with Arthur Scargill a communist miners leader because the government wanted to close pits. They made it into a personal battle which affected all the miners, my wife's father and her family were directly affected by the strike action. Your family may have also been affected (based on your comments) so will, obviously, see it from your view point. Sussex, totally agree with you, part of my decision to find work outside was a neighbour fro hell. A single parent who was on benefits all her adult life. The neighbourhood knew when her benefits arrived because she was pissed for the next few days. Loud music until the early hours during the week and would not turn it down. The police were not able to do anything, repeated warnings went unheeded. The local authorities had moved this woman three times because of her poor relationship with neighbours! She admitted this to us but still failed to try and change her ways. When there are families in hostels or the streets it does make my blood boil. Broken Britain but I still maintain it is up to the people to use their vote and we will get a government that will have to act on the interests of the electorate. What is the alternative? Civil unrest? It's not exactly working in other parts of the world is it?
those are the people who are wrong with this country taff, not the polish or muslims. i've worked in shops, charity and others, and i've come across a couple of polish or eastern european workers. whilst you probably get quite a few indiginous people sitting on their arses, they struggled to find work, so they volunteered as they wanted to do something.. very polite breed of people..unlike some.. as for thatcher, trade union power was out of control, her policies affected the poor in society but in the 1970's industry was extremely inefficient...its not possible to have industry with workers striking and unions who feel untouchable....however, if you dont mine your own coal you import it.. and you pay out dole to those made redundant....
Swamp, totally agree the work ethic of other countries shame the UK. A lot of countries I have visited have low pay and a poor infrastructure with regard to the employment and well being of the indiginous population. I ask the question "How can a Polish migrant come to the UK to work on poor pay and still afford to send money home?" Simple, as you imply, a good work ethic. How many times I have heard the words "I'm not doing that!" uttered by a Brit is unquantifiable, on the same token I saw an interview a while back of a "refugee" in Sangate (spelling) and when asked the question "Why have you come through Italy, Germany and France to get to here when you could claim asylum in any of those countries?! His response "In the UK I will get a house, car and money." No where is perfect but the UK is better than some other countries, but the Brits need to stand up and be counted.
