There's a thread about signing flops, a thread about our best and strongest 11, so now let's have one on the worst possible starting team that could be put out there:

    Mannone

    Traore
    Squilachi
    Cygan
    Djoure

    Arshavin
    Denilson
    Amaury Bischoff
    Eboue

    Jeffers
    Chamakh

Subs: Almunia, Bendtner, Silvestre, Senderos, Boa Morte, Jermaine Pennant, Jeremy Aliadiere

That team right there truly has the potential to get relegated if you ask me, the back 5 would send a shiver done any Arsenal fan, especially when you look at what we have in reserve to come on for them.

I actually was a fan of Aliadiere, decent finisher, just didn't happen for him

Putting Arshavin in that team is very harsh. I would replace him with someone like Kaba Diawara or Park. Changing the system to 4-3-3.

don't think you can put eboue or arshavin on there. arshavin was great at the start and still a useful player who provides many assists. eboue was utility, who was great at RB in 2006/07 i think it was and then played where asked.

  5. I agree. Eboue's contribution is often overlooked.

Like Arshavin, Chamakh had a good start to his Arsenal career when RvP was injured but then fell away, confidence heading southwards once RvP returned. So it wasn't all bad all of the time for some and this includes B52 who scored some very important goals for us in the 2008 season and thereabouts. Not many after that but he rarely got to play and like Chamakh, confidence and form suffered.

The likes of Denilson and Squillaci though have been complete disappointments even if the latter managed to score at Stoke!!!

eboue as pure defender .. does not warrant a place in the hall of shame .... eboue the midfielder with license to roam by wenger is right up there with the very worst arsenal players ever to wear the shirt ... i don't rate and never blamed eboue for his awful midfield play I blamed wenger for doing it.

Don't think Mannone should be there tbh, have we really seen enough of him to judge?

Djourou is by no means our worst defender ever, that label belongs to Silvestre. Completely and utterly useless in every aspect.
Arshavin, Denilson and Eboue should not be on the list IMO. Denilson has not been good at all, yet he has scored a few good goals in his time here, as has Arshavin and Eboue is a useful back up RB. Worse Arsenal midfielders I can think of include Junichi Inamoto (not sure how far we going back here) and Diawara if you were playing three up front...

Why not put Diaby instead of Arshavin? Arshavin at least scored important goals (many) and gave important assists (many). Just check the stats. Compare to Diaby.

What was wrong with Shabaan, he hardly played, and when he did, didn't create major blunders like Mannone did.

Seems a bit unfair on Bischoff - he didn't even start a game at Arsenal in his year there yet features in the 'Worst 11' team.

Well he was signed as a first choice keeper and although unlucky with injuries, when he came back he still never asserted himself. I can only really think of Richard Wright when it comes down to disappointing/bad Arsenal keepers. Mannone hasn't done himself any harm whilst on loan at Championship clubs and he was amazing in the 2009-10 season before Szcesz turned up. He kept 3 clean sheets in a row that season.

Inamoto wasn't a flop, he wasn't bad, he wasn't really given much of a chance. Denilson DEFINITELY wasn't a flop, he was one of our best players a season or 2 before he left - he played practically every game.

If you guys are going to name flops at least do it for the right reasons, a flop is a player who plays but does nothing to justify the hype or simply does nothing - if they are not played they can't really be flops can they and you can't ignore seasons where they were very good - like Eboue and Denilson.
