Just wondering what sort of reaction he will get when he comes to the SOL, I am more interested in the general reception he will get and not just people on here's views as I believe 99% of people on here are pleasent, good decent people who would always be 'civil' so to speak.

Personally I hope he gets a nice reception and no abuse.

I hold no grudge against him, he did an ok job, moved us on in some respects. I don't like him as a man though. Will be as though he never managed us for me.

I will always remember him for bringing real quality players to the club (even though they tended to always up and off) and we had some very decent games under him (Chelsea away I will never forget). I would say he really did push us on and stabilised us as a premiership club but lost his way the last 10 months at the club.

    I think he'll get a muted applause.

He didn't **** us over in any way, he brought some good players in, and progressed us.

He just hit his own ceiling, sadly.

He'd get a good reception from me. I was disappointed to see the demise of the club with brucie at the helm, and hoped he'd turn it around. he didn't, and i was calling for MON as soon as he left, the current manager always has my support from day 1 to when he leaves the club. He did a good job, but didn't pay enough attention to the events that caused his departure. End of. MON all the way :)

Did a decent job in that he put everything in place to make us a good Premiership outfit, but somewhere along the line he couldn't quite get everything to gel.

Deserves respect for the work he did here, even if it went tits up in the end and he had to go, so I for one will give him a round of applause.

Seems Mr Bruce may have a point then..
    ............................................

Steve Bruce admits his Geordie links may have played a key role in his dismissal as Sunderland manager earlier this season.

The 51-year-old was sacked at the end of November following a run of two wins in 13 games that had left the club lying 16th in the Premier League, two points above the relegation zone.

A home defeat by Wigan ended his reign, with club chairman Ellis Short describing results as "simply not good enough", but Bruce pointed to an early-season loss to bitter rivals Newcastle - and his own connection to that city - as major factors in losing the backing of the Sunderland fans.

"We lost against Newcastle in our second game - our first game at home - and that set the tone," Bruce told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"We got off to a difficult start, and we had the top teams early on.

"The Geordie thing unfortunately came out. I supported Newcastle as a boy and lived in Newcastle and left when I was 15.

"I went to Sunderland and said, 'listen you know where I'm from, you know who I supported as a boy, but it was years ago'.

"But that's the one thing that came out towards the end."

Bruce insists, however, that he bears no ill-will towards Martin O'Neill, the man who replaced him as Black Cats boss and has since transformed the club's fortunes.

"I rang him and said that of all the people out there, I'm glad it's you," he said.

"I do like Martin. He's a very talented manager as we've seen, and I do genuinely wish him well."

Bruce also defended his time at Sunderland, which brought a best league finish of 10th place in the 2010-11 campaign.

"When people look back I hope that, apart from those few months where it went a bit pear-shaped, they can say that he put together a decent squad," he said.

"I think the squad at Sunderland now compared to what it was two and a half years ago is a million miles apart.

"I spent something like £70million over the two and a half years I was there, but I'd like to say that I got something like £70-odd million back. It enabled me to rebuild the squad - we brought in 10 or 11 players for that sort of investment."

Bruce believes his difficulties at Sunderland tainted his reputation - and ultimately cost him the chance of landing the Wolves job following the dismissal of Mick McCarthy last month.

"I think there's a perception that when you get sacked in the Premier League you're a failure," he said.

"The big perception is out there. That was the disappointing thing I got up to one Sunday morning, that the Wolves fans didn't want me."

Bruce insists, however, that he is ready to make his managerial comeback.

"In my life I've had knock-backs, and the one thing about me is I want to get back up again," he said.

"You want to get back in. I've been out for what seems like an eternity.

"I've had a knock but I'm itching to get back in. I hope somebody out there is ready and willing to take a chance, and if that's the case then I'll go back to work.

"I'm open to offers. We'll see what the summer brings."
