The Rams welcome the Hornets who are attempting to avenge the defeat the visitors gave them in the first game in Watford earlier in the season. The hosts will be looking to keep the record that has not seen Watford win in Derby since August 2005.

    DERBY COUNTY

“It has been a feature of our season; we have a few good results, then we can't win for a few and we hope we are on a crest of a run now to get us over that 50 point mark.”

“t will be another tough game. We have played two of the top six sides recently, and people might be expecting Watford to be easier, but the Championship is not like that. Games against the bottom six or eight teams are just as hard in the next few games.”

    • The Rams

Jamie Ward has a thigh strain which kept him from the Blackpool game and probably Saturday as well. Derbys leading goalscorer is an ex-Hornet, Theo Robinson. Oddly Tamas Priskins only goal this season was while Ipswich Town had loaned him to the Pride Park team.

    Todays team
    Frank Fielding
    Craig Bryson,
Jason Shackell, Shaun Barker, Jake Buxton
Paul Green - caution 87 mín., Callum Ball for Ben Davies - goal 31 mín. - 75 mín., Nathan Tyson for Tom Carroll - 46 mín., James Bailey for Jeff Hendrick- 87 mín.
    Theo Robinson, Steven Davies

    Substitutes: Adam Legzdins (GK)
, Nathan Tyson, James Bailey, Callum Ball, Tom Naylor

“It's an intimidating place, so to come away from here with a point is very pleasing for us. It was a great performance, we are a little bit disappointed to concede a late goal but we stuck in there and it is a great point for us going forward.”

“It's about doing what we're good at and playing to our strengths. We played with a lot of freedom, we didn't pass the ball around as well as we know we can but, in patches we did and a bit of magic from Sean [Murray] got us in front.”

    • The Hornets

Stephen McGinn is still out on the long term list, but he has started playing again so a return will not be too long in coming. Ross Jenkins and Gavin Massey are out with a groin strain and illness. Nyron Nosworthy was also ill before last Wednesdays match and Dale Bennett who was carried off the field in the game against West Ham is reported to be suffering from concussion, fortunately his injury was no worse.

    Todays team

    Tomasz Kuszczak
Lloyd Doyley, Adrian Mariappa- caution 84 mín., Nyron Nosworthy, Carl Dickinson - caution 69 mín.
Prince Buaben for Sean Murray - goal 8 mín. - 81 mín., John Eustace (c), Jonathan Hogg, Alex Kacaniklic
Chris Iwelumo for Joe Garner - 62 mín., Martin Taylor for Troy Deeney - goal 15 mín. - 90+1 mín.

Substitutes: Scott Loach (GK), Martin Taylor, Prince Buaben, Chris Iwelumo, Marcello Trotta

Update on the Hornet's latest statistics

    Who will win?

    Current form

After gaining a point at West Ham and giving Burnley a two goal start and then winning Watford will be in good heart. Two very bad defeats before that will be what the hosts wish to copy. Derby County. Surprisingly Derbys recent record is very similar to Watford. In the last four there were two defeats to start then a draw and a win, beating Blackpool and drawing in Birmingham.

    Further into the past
There have only been 16 matches played between Derby County and Watford in Derby. The hosts have won eight af these gameswith three draws. The domination does not really extend to goals where the visitors are outscored by 30:18. Derby's best win was a 4:1 success last season while Watford have never scored more than than two.

Akureyri's Prediction: 1-1 In A game with almost no meaning the two teams will be looking to gain points to make the bottom three clubs task of catching them a little more difficult.

Great MT again AK. We were very unlucky to loose against them at ours after dominating for 80mins. I can see us snatching a winner in the dying mins.

You all will not believe me when I write this was the hardest of all the threads to make as the mouse pad of my laptop has started to stop working. The left mouse button has stopped so I may turn it to a mouse right configuration instead of the normal one.

And now it works as properly.

AK, my sombrero is tipped in your direction for the match thread. Great, as always.

Oh the Championship, it is the best league in the world. Everyone thinks they have claim to be in the prem again and it is a tough game against everyone on their day. Theo will want to make a point, my prediction is that is all he will get !

I know we are not safe yet but maybe the team will feel a bit more freedom the nearer to the end we get. I predict a high score draw.

Don't think we have anything to play for :(?

I'm one of those guys who thinks "If it's mathematically possible...why not?".

I think Derby are one of those teams where you just don't know....... we outplayed them at the Vic but lost 1-0....

I think they are fairly similar to us....so a draw is on the cards.

Not only that, we should be busting a gut to overtake Carduff - just to teach them & MM a lesson. :)

GT managed us for three seasons in the lower leagues, and to my knowledge he never managed 10 wins and a draw in 11 games. If we do emulate his success, we have to follow it up with an aggregate victory and a Wembley win.

Because that is the minimum requirement if we want to go up this season.

We're hopeful Nozza will be feeling better, but what happens if he isn't, bearing in mind that Hoban, Thompson and Mirfin are all out on loan?

Would it make more sense to play Doyley at centre back, or risk Taylor for a second time in three days?

I'd be tempted to put Loach in as centre back. Perhaps it will give him a new perspective on what his back four need in a goal keeper. <doh>

Nice one AK - 5 *'s as usual.

I am feeling a bit positive on this one...I'm going for a 1-2 Watford win and Theo missing a sitter..

Or you could look at it the other way. Put Mapps and Noz in goal in training so they see what Loach sees and they know what he needs in his back 4. Twice in as many weeks now the defence have given gifts to the oppo. Something has changed, and it worries me.

    Glad to hear it.

Still think it's an interesting what-if though, and given that Dyche usually only picks one defender on the bench it's something he will have to think about in case disaster strikes during the first half.

i agree. What was wrong with Hodson on Wednesday? If he's fit, we've got the option of Tiny or Dickinson on the bench..or both i suppose. If not, i suspect Dicko will play, Deeney will be on the right, and Mapps and Nos in the middle...
