  1. Yes, but the jump between Belgian football to Dutch football, is no where near as big as Belgian to the toughest league in the world.

As i said, i think he's good and i like the look of him. I wouldn't mind him, but i don't want us to pay a big amount for him

Good point, should only spend big money on PL proven players

Vargas isnt a striker, non comparable with Sturridge.

And it would be crazy to launch a big offer for Sturridge after less than half a full season in the PL. I mean who would be crazy enough to pay a ridiculous fee for an unproven young striker, who might just have been in good form? <whistle>

Thats about the right amount to spend on him

  5. People say this but they're also talking about big bids for Gemeiro and Gervihno, who are also unproven in the PL.

Sturridge, funnily enough, has shown decent scoring form for every club he's been at apart from Chelsea.

23 apps 5 goals for Man City (16-18 years old though) and he didn't even start any of those games.

4 goals in 5 for Bolton.

He has shown his capability, not only a good shot on goal, but good pace and ball control, and excellent instinct.
I reckon he'll be a 12-15 goals a season striker, which is what we need.

I was making a Carroll joke, because Liverpool bid after 6 months at the top.

Gameiro and Gervinho are proven scorers, not necessarily in the PL but you cant only sign English players, especially given how ridiculously overrated and overpriced in particular they are.

If Chelsea put Sturridge for sale, they would easily get 10mil, and that would be a bigger risk than a proven goalscorer from abroad for less money and lower wages.

  7. Perhaps it'd be worth taking him on loan, but i think he's worth the 10 mil to be honest.

Agree. 2 things stand out though, one is I forgot Club Brugge got into Europe so he has European experience and is proven at that level it seems. The worrying thing though is this:

"Vargas continued his good shape in the start of the second part of the tournament, but on 6 February 2011 he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in a league match against KRC Genk, only eight minutes after the start of the match. He is expected to be out of the fields for over six months."

28 16 apps and goals respectively is quite a good record for a AM IMO, even though the Belgium League isn't of great quality. It is currently ranked 14th in the UEFA rankings of leagues based on performances in European competitions over the last five-years.[1] The competition was ranked 3rd when the UEFA first published their ranking in 1979 and also the next year in 1980, which is the best ranking the Belgian First Division has ever achieved.

So not great but decent enough to worth punting for.

Sadly he did get injured and is expected to return in the summer which is a shame because I was following his club and since he's got injured they've been a bit tame as of late. He's the third top scorer and is a late developer.. I think if we could get him on loan with a view to a perm deal.. say 6m-7m(activated at any time) then that would be very good business so we can try him out & see if he's good at this level and if not we can always ship him back.. or we could do what we did with Arfa.. pay a initial 2m loan deal and pay 5m more at the end of the season or something like that.

Always been a firm supporter of Guthrie ever since he signed for Newcastle. I was really really excited about him when Keegan brought him in and he was still very very young at the time for being such an accomplished English central midfielder.

It annoys me that Pardew doesn't seem to rate him whatsoever and still lavishes praise on players like Ameobi

    Rep for you Chappaz.

  15. No. Harper has had one bad game, apart from that shambles yesterday, he's been excellent.

He'll be the number one for the rest of his playing career. He waited for 15 years to play first team football, and he's been fantastic for us. Krul is a good keeper but not as good as Harper yet, and Forster hasn't exactly r0xx0red peoples b0xx0rs.

Tim Krul made one bad error vs Man City at home and was dropped the same should apply for Steve Harper.

Tim Krul is as good as Steve Harper, his distribution is better.

Krul isnt at Harper's level yet, and his kicking is awful, far worse than Harper's. Harper has only made two mistakes (yesterday and the penalty in the Villa game) all season and he should keep his place.

Also it's not an excuse or anything for his mistake yesterday but Harper didnt want the ball (replays show he is telling Williamson to clear it himself) because his laces were undone and had he whacked it upfield one of his boots would have come off.

  18. Tim Krul and Steve Harper's goal kicks are good but once in a while they'll have a stinker and make a mistake.

Harpers goal kicks are more intelligent, but he's had more experience. Krul deserves time to learn.

At this crucial point of the season, we need as much experience as possible so Harps has to start.

Exactly. Harper's a much better goalie anyway.
