We would of been completely our of the tie if it wasn't for David De gea, he was fantastic today, he made great superb saves, he was our best player today, the only united player today which was fully awake and concentrating
The 3rd goal was 100% Rafael's fault. De Gea has been our standout player for the past few weeks, against Chelsea, Norwich and Spurs he's been our MOTM. It's good that he's playing well, but bad that the rest of the team is giving him so many opportunities to shine. Tonight again we were dross, and again De Gea had a great game, they could have scored 6 against us if it wasn't for De Gea. So he's kept us in the tie by the skin of our teeths. Still gona be tough to turn things around in Spain though, but on out day we do have the quality to trouble any side in Europe, afterall weve been to 3 of the last 4 CL finals, so although were on the ropes were not beat yet
This Our European away form has been way better than our home form, so I don't think we're entirely doomed. Hopefully the squad is motivated and we obliterate West Brom this weekend.
you mean out nearly because of not so ruthless finishing, but whatever cheers you up. His positioning was comical again last night
Bit rich considering the cocks ups Reina sometimes makes. Reina is a good keeper no doubt, but you think the way the Liverpool fans get on that he never makes mistakes. Wrong.
comical or not. Had he not made the saves that he did it would have been even more embarrassing Its been the same for the last few games. You want to look for someone to blame for last night? look at the likes of rooney. Old heads who need to take the game by the cajones and lead by example Our midfield last night exposed rooneys weaknesses, these are usually covered up by another figure who is oft ridiculed, namely Michael Carrick Rooney and hernandez cannot hold the ball up, and with giggs and jones in midfield it was a recipe for disaster. I think that was why park played. To give protection
mate, I know that already, Pepe has cost us points too shall i come back with some vDS classics? no. But... this is a De Gea thread there#'s a lot of bs about his performance, if all but one went in last night he'd be slated, he made one good save he could have been forgiven for not making, all the others bar the 1st goal ware laughable 2nd, he just stood there, on his heels and almost went to save it but decided,no? Why was he standing where he was and what te fk was he doing 3 He was backing off because he advanced too far in the first place but still was better off standing up and not backng away. The lob that went wide, again too far out from goal and nearly made look a fool. If you showed the game to a keeping coach they'd cry. The guy is decent, he just is not playing well yet
De Gea is playing better and better all the time. He is showing great determination to come back after mistakes. I cannot recall another keeper being placed under so much scrutiny by the national media some of whom take great glee in his earlier performances. Hope he continues to improve and shove the criticism down their throats.
just as a manager earns merit for going to other leagues and succeeding, De Gea must get credit for giving this a crack, big move new league new different country, but he hasn't even remotely lived up to his price tag one jot
Very few players ever do live up to their price tags. Some will never reach one tenth of their value. Carroll springs to mind.
I tihnk we can agree also, Bilbao were physical enough last night, lets all stop fooling ourselves that the spanish league is so inferior. They could mix it up
He's still just a kid, give the guy a break. He was bought for so much because he has the potential to play at the top level for the next 20 years, so he's not going to repay his price tag after 6 months. He had a shakey start, and all Man Utd supporters know that, but over the last couple of months he's put in some good performances, and is starting to show the talent he has
Bilbao 2nd goal was about 2 yards offside so that was not De Gea fault. 3rd goal was i give you that.
You can criticise every goalkeeper for every goal because 99% of all PL goalkeepers can cover every inch of the goal so a 100mph thunderbolt into the postage stamp from 20 yards away can be put down to simply "the goalkeeper didn't react quickly enough, its his mistake". You watch the angle from behind the goal for the 3rd goal and Munain is about 25 yards from goal when De Gea makes the save, it's possible that he is blinded to Munain's run because of Rafael but while you can say that its poor communication (it shouldn't been, Spanish and Portuguese) but theres no way that Rafael shouldn't have at least realised that Munain was there and tried to shield it from him to allow De Gea to collect. And the 2nd goal was clearly offside, his whole body is more or less beyond the line so it's a bad miss from the assistant. It's not even a case of maybe his leg was beyond the last man as well. But even though the shot was it the corner, I think De Gea would have got it had he gone for it, so that wasn't brillant. More about the 3rd goal. Doesn't anyone else remember when Giggs played a ball without a boot on earlier in the match? Did the referee give a free kick? I'm not sure he did, personally I don't know why you'd penalise a team with a free kick against them. A drop ball makes a sense or even sending the player off the pitch to sort his equipment out seems more reasonable to me. Still doesn't change the fact that it was still ridiculous defending.
