I always did try to be impartial Derry, pretty hard when there'd only one side throwing brick & petrol bombs at you, lol.

We once picked this suspected UDA bloke up on night patrol, now our C/O was a right **** & we took him for a ride from Shankill up to The Murph.

We4 dropped him off & when he realised where he was he pissed himself with fear, of course at the time we all thought it was a real ****ing hoot as we were all young lads.

We left him to find his own way back, never found out what happened to him. We did it the other way around too, picking lads up from Republican areas & dropping them off in the Short Strand, not nice but it went on.

The first time I saw a man murdered I was 18, the first time I killed a man I WAS 19. Had I not, it would have been carnage. The kid was only about 17 but was well armed.

I think about him every night. I often dream about my time in NI, Derry.

I know the Creggan, Waterside, Bogside, Ballmurphy, Short Strand.

Of course there was the usual court case which we had to all go through.

Billy those times were hard for everyone and hopefully it's coming to an end. I take it by the court case you refer to isn't the one I think it is? But then again lad you aren't old enough, PM me if you want lad.

I love going back now but still have to carefull as all it takes is to get pissed in a bar with some locals & my past can easily come tumbling out Derry.

I have enjoyed reading through that, maybe we should have a a services thread on her for you boys to chat and for us non service to read, sometimes it can be good to be reminded that fall outs over football teams is not that important.

We were in kandahar and they were firing a couple of rockets over at the compound. Within seconds we were all under cover in the bunkers ( suprised how fast you can get up and dressed in that situation).

To look round at the various degree of undress (as most of us had been tucked up in bed) was hilarious, one of the lds had nowt but his boxers, body armour and helmet!!! The taliban would have pissed themselves (as we did, once it calmed down mind you :emoticon-0103-cool:)

Aye mate glad to be out but loved it all the same, 22 is a long old time and the Dets are getting silly these days, many of the lads are doing six months a year away.
I remember going to the CIO in Sunderland. When I said I was in the leaving the Shipyards a RAF bloke asked me if any other lads would be interested in joining up. That may have been you!

i joined up as a royal engineer transferring to 9 para after p company, have seen plenty of action, and played water polo for the regiment, Army, and combined services. loved every minute of my time, and would do it again with no qualms.

I do understand you but I'd bet you now that most of the lads want to see the job through.

The thing is though is that the politicians would do owt to get elected. If public opinion made it clear that the government were going to get hammered at the next election then they would happily do it if the opposition made it clear they would do it.

We, however have a three party system that allows a party to be elected with a minority vote & all three of the main ones basically piss in the same pot anyhow so I doubt it would make any difference here.

Sorry for bringing politics into it.

Just listening to our brave politicians on question time, we are doing what needs to be done is the idea, mind some we's are in Whitehall, easier to be brave there.

Aye, long gone are the days when the king went into battle with his men.

I posted this this morning before I went to work, purely in jest mind but imagine if Scotland does get independence from the UK & we go to war with them over oil.

It would be like the home internationals all over again, happy days, lol.

Joined of my own free will. 1970, nothing more to add, too private. but not happy with threads and responses from folk who were never in the mob, you cant understand us , and never will, you love us when you are under pressure, and you loath and look down on us, when all is going well. so bollocks, lads and lasses from the mob will understand.

ON an aside, anybody with Morrissy or Roger Watters albums should destroy them. read the papers.
