If Fryatt isn't, as seems to be the case, best suited as the lone striker in our current formation; I wonder why we haven't tried swopping him with Mclean? Maybe Mclean would be better at holding the ball up to enable others to get into better positions and perhaps Fryatt would benefit from not playing with his back to goal for 90 minutes. I know he hasn't got a great deal of pace but I don't think he's necessarily any slower than Mclean. Just a thought. I also think we have to find a way to get Evans further forward more, especially at home, because I do think he and Koren work well together and both are capable of unlocking a defence. It would put a bit more pressure on Mckenna but the defenders shouldn't be fully occupied at home when most away teams only play with one up.
Dele Adebola has been the only player at the club who can play this role well (showed that against West Ham). But his legs are gone after 30 mins so we need an Adebola type player with younger legs. Emile Sinclair could be that player if the rumour has any credence to it. But i doubt that the Posh would entertain a swap deal,, or would they ??
time will tell but i dont see Sinclair as the answer if i am being honest. i would be amazed if the posh let him go at this stage of the season though.
i actually dont think fryatt has been doing that bad in the role lately, the problem is the lack of support from the wide men and evans/oli... far too often fryatt is korens only option and far too easy mark out the game at times.. whoever is playing out wide needs to get further forward on the shoulder of the fullbacks and look at getting in behind, instead of constantly going short for the ball, stewart is the worst culprit for this, but there all nearly just as bad..
I agree with this. Fryatt runs around and holds the ball up well enough (though based on the Ipswich game McLean can do the job okay too). The problem is getting more players forward to help him out.
i think we need to add the opposition managers to the equation. Mowbury, Hollywell and others have altered their normal game plan in order to deal with our attack.
Beyond telling the defensive midfielder to sit on Koren all game so he doesn't get time on the ball is there an attack to defend against? Fullbacks will have less work than normal because they don't have to stop the ball, and centrebacks will have normal instructions. Fullbacks - push the wingers outside and let them cross, **** all height in the middle and nobody following in so the central defenders can deal with it easily, so long as the defensive midfielder is doing his job and stops Koren getting on the end of the clearance. Centrebacks - I don't need to tell you anything, there's two of you to deal with one of them and he lacks pace and height, if you can't sort that between the two of you then you can **** off to the Conference because you must be ****.
