Danny Guthrie should get a proper chance - Wolves game

  1. He's started a few games. He's had a poor game, and a couple of decent ones.

He set up Colocccini for that beasty goal against Spurs. Does anyone else think that he should be given a proper chance?

I personally think that Lovenkrands and Shola aren't going to do us much good. They have their good attributes but they're not going to help us get goals, so i think Nolan should be moved out of the midfield, behind the striker, and Danny Guthrie should be slotted in CM.

Guthrie has pace, agility, he can beat players and doesn't look over run in midfield. He's useless on the wing, but i personally think he's a decent PL quality player in the centre of the field. He has good vision, can deliver well. He either puts in a great ball or a **** one, but he's already helped us get one goal in only 2 starts.

I think he'd be much more effective than Nolan. I love Nolan, but we need him for goals, and we need his aggression in attack. He's a class player, but he should be moved behind the striker. He's not fast or agile enough to play with the likes of Barton, Jonas and Tiote. He looks like a passenger most of the time when working from the root of our midfield, but he comes alive in the attack and is a big part of it. Nolan's passing and deliveries in attack are actually pretty good. Nolan IS a technical player, but to slow for the midfield. He's a player that will work hard in attack and in defence, but he's not quick enough to be apart of the midfield.

After thinking about it, this is my line up for the Wolves game -

    -------------------Best------------------

    -------------------Nolan-----------------

    Ferguson-----Guthrie-----Barton------Jonas

    Enrique-------Coloccini---Williamson--Simmo

    -------------------Harper------------------

OR - If Enrique is out

    --------------------Best--------------------

    --------------------Nolan-------------------

    -Jonas-------Ireland-------Guthrie------Barton

    -Ferguson---Coloccini------Willo----------Simmo

Nolan IS a technical player, but to slow for the midfield.

Are you serious? He's nowhere near technical enough. You want technical ability? See Spanish whole national team/squad. See Barton, Guthrie, Ireland, Ben Arfa, Colo and Enrique.

Nolan IMO is very average in terms of CM play. Slow, passing is very questionable, tackling is at times rash/miss-timed, looks a passenger most of the times and defensively he can be exposed/over-run. But yeah that's me personally and me personally I'll like to have him as a back-up/competition for a better player to partner Tiote.. someone like Barton and then buy a RM next season if possible.

Guthrie definitely deserves a chance, he formed a decent partnership at times with Butt back in our 08-09 season and looked good, he looked even better in the Championship but unfortunately injuries/competition for places have ruined his chances and he hasn't really being outstanding himself but IMO he has more to his game than Nolan except he doesn't have Kevin's leadership, experience and goals nor Tiote's defensive solidity nor Barton's grarft/craft but what Guthrie has is a good passing range, decent work-rate and is way more active than Nolan in the middle.

Definitely like your line-up of Ferguson/Enrique both playing.

Think he'l definately get a chance with all of the injuries.

Hopefully it will be at CM though and not RM. He's a good CM, pretty ineffective on the right and causes imbalance in the midfield.

  5. What is people's definition of technical these days? A player thats quick and can skin players? Is it ****.

Nolan can pass the ball well, disperse play, can deliver a good long ball and long pass, and he can score goals and play a part in the defense. That's a number of uses. We just need to play him in his proper position. He creates chances for players and is a beast in the box.

All he lacks is agility and pace to play a part of the quick 1 touch passing type play we sometimes perform.

    Harper
    Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Jose/Ferguson
    Barton, Nolan, Ireland/Guthrie, Guti/Ferguson
    Best, Ranger/Ireland (playing behind)

    Depending on injuries etc.

Might be called an idiot for this but why was Sol picked before Perch for the Stoke game and should we consider Perch for Wolves game?.

You can't get any worse than how Sol was playing.

After yesterday's performance Harper needs a wake up call. Give one of the youngsters a chance, maybe the rest will do Harper some good.

Bad game at the office Agent, Got a lot more confidence in him than Krul. I think Guthrie does deserve a chance but Pardew doesn't seem to rate him and think he'll be off in the summer.

No. Ball control, passing, dribbling, marking, tricks, stamina, etc.. it's not just about pace. It's about being clever and having a bit of ''flair'' about them, something Nolan will never have/ever will.

Certainly got to give the lad a go, never put the BBC live text heard a player in a team 3-0 down being described as the stand out player.

A technical player is intelligent, quick to act with the ball at his feet, has a range of passing and yes, is able to beat a man with skill. Technical players in our side are the likes of Colo, Ben Arfa and Barton.

Nolan is good, but not in a technical sense. He has great instinct in the box and is a natural goalscorer and is driven by his passion and determination. A great technical player can be excellent at football but not be very interested at all, whereas the likes of Nolan are good because they love the game.

    Harper

    Simpson Williamson Coloccini Enrique

    Jonas Barton Nolan Ferguson

    Ameobi Best

This would be my lineup for the game, its a no brainer in my opinion, Jonas on the right to replace Barton who would shift into the middle to cover Tiote, this way we get a proper box to box midfielder who will cover similar ground to what Tiote would if he was playing, I would keep Nolan ahead of Guthrie simply because we need his leadership at the moment and crops up with goals, but I would totally agree with Sanchinos analysis of him, he offers very little in midfield and is a passenger in most games, we should look to replace him with someone more creative in time.

Ferguson shifts to left wing because I think hes much better going forward then he looks defensively, perhaps when he bulks up a bit he will make a better LB but even then wouldnt get in ahead of Enrique (providing hes fit)

Stokes defence couldnt handle Shola on Saturday at times and in my opinion he was one of our better players and had a 3-4 decent efforts at goal, hes also most likely to grab a goal out of Kuqi, Lovenkrands and Ranger so I would definitely put him in with Best whos been impressive since getting his chance.

I think that team should be winning against Wolves and hopefully move us one step closer to staying up! Heres to hoping!

  18. Nolan has good ball control and can pass the ball well. He's also creative and makes chances for players.

I'm sorry but i'm thinking you're committing a knee jerk reaction to yesterday or you're watching a completely different player.
