He says while taking 100k a week . Seems like a good signing, he's a proven goalscorer, but if it means RVP's going then that sucks.
if RVP goes there is only one man to blame ... and he is blameless so we have to lump it if it happens ....
If your British players progress and you keep RVP then this could well be the signing that turns you back into a silverware winning team. You still need a convincing goalkeeper though.
Chesney Hawkes has actually been one of their better players this season, NNW. He makes the odd mistake, but all keepers do, especially young ones. They don't need to replace him.
Don't agree with this - Chesney has pulled some performances out this year, remember that this time a year ago he'd just made his premier league debut (at OT) and his Champions Lge debut (v Barca), he is still very inexperienced. What he has is the desire to improve and the self confidence to succeed, he will be one of the worlds top keepers in a year or two IMO....
Indeed. He'd be one of the last players I'd replace and I can think of very few people I'd rather have in nets than him. Excellent keeper and a character too.
our gk is (for me) second only in consistency to RVP this year, yes he has made mistakes but die wondering ain't one fo them, he talks and he commands which for a young kid is more then any gk has done for us since the german lunatic, i was a doubter but he has shown me that with a stronger better organised defence infront of him he can make a big name for himself .... seaman and lehman were good but just look at the back fours/fives they worked worked with.
Yeh i suppose But if he proves prolific then the money would be well spent. Now for signing RVP up for the rest of his career and pushing the rest of the rubbish off a boat....
No way Chesney is rubbish. After a few more years he will be regarded as one of the best keepers in the world. He is already one of the best in the premiership at such a young age. He will form the spine that we've been looking for so long.
Great signing for you guys. Now all you need to do is get rid of your dead-weights - ie. Arshavin and Rosicky
True. This might upset a few but I can see old Rudolph (is this allowed these days ?) in Chesney, commanding in every aspect of his game. Massive plus in a keeper....
Ignore him: 98% of Southampton fans are ignorant glory hunters. Frankly I'm surprised that he didn't try to pass off RVP and Oxlade Chamberlain as "dead-weights".
Maybe this signing will also encourage Goetze to come to Arsenal also ? Per and Lukas - get on those text messages
Piskie, goetze is what a 20yr old promising youngster ... how many do we have already that he joins the queue behind?, not saying he can't play but he is still learning as is ramsey wilshire, oxo et all ... we need a 26yr creative man for the here and now, a snijder or kaka in the creative midfield position would be for the here and now and help others like wilshire etc bring their game on. would cost a fortune but de risks the inevitable bedding in year and we will be better next year excuse rolled out for alll our kids when we roll over before xmas ... the reason podolski is a good buy is it tells me that we may look for more mature players to play in key areas to bring on the development of the kids that we have already not supplement them with more teenagers, we did not go for a parker and weve regretted it this year, spurs got impact straight way because he ain't learning anymore (well he is but you get my point)
This makes sense. Best player Arsenal could have but never signed, Xavi Alonso. He's still quality now
It almost seems like we (Newcastle) have hustled Arsene out of the French market so now he's moved over to the Germans.
Very true, we already have Wilshere, Ramsey and OXO who are the future creative midfielders in our side so why not get a ready made slot in? The problem is who as they usually carry a large price tag. Maybe there is someone that we've spotted for around the 15-25m mark?
