No I agree, being a Pompey fan is fun. Imagine if you had/were made to support somebody else. I wouldn't find that fun at all.
Yeah I agree it can be a lot of fun supporting pompy, you have been through alot but still come out fighting, You are amazing, Supporing Gillingham can be fun but sometimes they can just do your head in when they are playing bad we become extremely unlucky or completely dismal.
Thanks pompeymeowth. It's Pompey only for me and my boys (sorry HOADIE-BOI). Although I have sympathy and empathy for the fans of other teams if Pompey didn't exist I couldn't imagine supporting any other team.
I used to dread going to Priestfield though, because it was such a difficult place to get a result! The Gills fans really got behind the team and stuck in that corner could be a v lonely place. Southend was another place we often came unstuck. Who are Gillinghams deadly rivals? I'm going to guess, Charlton?
Yeah I know what you mean there mate, If gills went bust I would be Well angry and it would fell like life is over because I am die hard gills fan and love the club, And hearing that we are in a lot more debt than we thought (Which was only conformed only 4 weeks ago is A complete distaster) scares me about the future of the club. I would never be able to support anyone else, you know it is like family they are born your family and nothing can change it which is totally the same with the club you support, if you are such a big supporter you cannot change who you support
No mate I would say Millwall or Swindon, Maybe mainly Swindon but there is a fact out there that Gillingham is the least hated club in the football league as no club actually says we are there rivals, Which is brilliant to hear.
Yeah they see us as rivals, Have to say that would be brilliant if there was another kent team in our league I would love it as I never got to see Gillingham play Maidstone in our league. But as it stands now we have no teams that believe we are there rivals so they say we are the most liked team in the football league which is brilliant for a team, Definatly not going to be Millwall who are second LOL
The 2003 Football Fans Census revealed that no other team's supporters considered Gillingham to be among their club's main rivals.[78] Millwall are considered to be the closest the Gills have to local rivals.[79] Swindon Town are seen by many fans as the club's biggest rivals, stemming from bad-tempered matches between the two teams in the past.[80] While Swindon fans generally do not consider Gillingham their biggest rivals, there was violence when they met at Priestfield in the 2005–06 season, their first meeting since a promotion play-off match in 1987.[81] Following their promotion in 1989, Maidstone United became Kent's second League side. A rivalry with Gillingham developed over the following seasons, until Maidstone's financial troubles forced them to resign from the League in 1992 Thats the evidence for that I also heard it on the football league show about a year ago when clattenberge was talking about us. They said therefore we are the only team who has no massive rivals which means we are the most liked club, We are a nice lot of people with good support like pompey
It's a shame that Millwall have the reputation they do, as they have many decent fans. Because of a history between Pompey and Millwall, back in the year we won the championship (then league one), away fans were banned at some Millwall games, ours included, therefore none of us got to go to the New Den and see a Paul Merson Masterclass where we stuck five past them. I wish I could have seen it.
Yeah I know it is a lot to do with the past with them, They have a passionate lot of fans like us and pompey respectivly, shame they used to have a lot of idiots supporting then in the past
Rep for everything you said you are completely spot on with what you say mate, Everything you say seems to be true. Never a truier word spoken
They did themselves no favours yesterday, when that bloke fell, singing you'll never walk again and other lovely ditties.
Yeah that is wrong, They need to change from saying things like that. The fans who are bad which is normally a small number are very bad for football but it will never change as there is always going to be idiots.
I agree that Millwall have many good fans. Trouble with the likes of Millwall, West Ham etc is the fact that the bad guys are a group that can appear at any of their games. They seem to be more a London problem than just Millwall etc.
Totally agree you look at West ham aswell, also when Gills played Charlton last season Charlton got in the medway stand our home end and started beating up the stewards and police you can look on Youtube they were animals.
