I've seen it claimed that because there's several games we've failed to win, then it's not down to opposition keepers. Basically we're 'making it too easy' for them. Now whilst this is true to some extent, you might find the following interesting (in no particular order):

Joe Hart:
"Joe Hart made a stunning injury-time save to maintain 10-man Manchester City's unbeaten Premier League record in a 1-1 draw at Liverpool."
http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/footb...11-2012/liverpool-manchester-city-453821.html

Mark Bunn:
"It's exactly a year ago today that Mark Bunn made his Barclays Premier League debut for Blackburn. But, for many, the goalkeeper's wonder save at Liverpool on Boxing Day came out of the blue.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...unn-roll-Wonder-save-spur-Blackburn-No-2.html

Michael Vorm:
"Dutch goalkeeper's heroics preserve point for Swansea"
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...rm-exposes-old-liverpool-failing-6257935.html

John Ruddy:
"Ruddy, the former Everton reserve goalkeeper, was inspired"
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/oct/23/kenny-dalglish-liverpool-norwich-city

Asmir Begovic:
man of the match award
http://www.goal.com/en-us/match/60191/stoke-vs-liverpool/report

Wojciech Szczesney:
Arsenal site's man of the match:
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/man-of-the-match-against-liverpool-szczesny

Ali Al-habsi:
"Latics Hold Liverpool As Heroic Al-Habsi Foils Reds"
http://www.whoateallthepies.tv/live...ic-al-habsi-foils-reds-photos-highlights.html

Some examples of games where rather than be gifted the odd goal to make the game easy for us, keepers have played out of their skin. Many of these made saves described as 'heroic', 'world class' or 'stunning'.

Discuss.

Great saves by all the above...however if we had stuck away the rest of our chances the other saves don't really get much of a mention. A keeper can make 3 or 4 world class saves in a game but if they still lose no one gives it a mention. The fact is most of our players haven't been able to hit the proverbial cows arse with a ****ing huge banjo. We can make excuses as much as we want but to win games week in week out you have to score lots of goals and we are bollox at it (and that's being kind) <ok>

Who was our last striker who looked like a natural “goal scorer”...Owen. He left what, 8 years ago...it's not really rocket science.

Would this be the Michael Owen that never scored 20 league goals or Fernando Torres who scored 24 league goals in his best (fittest) season? :emoticon-0100-smile

The moral of the story is don't have anyone in your team who can score goals as they are undoubtedly a judas!

8. The shot has to be savable for the keeper to save it!

FT left a mental scar the **** <laugh>

Seriously though it is ridiculous how the goals have dried up this year. I've stuck up for Mandy a lot coz he's still only young and he's not the only culprit but jesus we should have spent that cash wiser (not necessarily that we shouldn't have bought him but he was never going to be a leading scorer).

When you look at the goal return from the recent signings Suarez, Carroll, Adam, Downing and Hendo it's frankly appauling <grr> I know we have been unlucky at times and it is true that some keepers have had great games but for me that doesn't account for a seasons worth of pretty dire finishing.

What's the solution SN? And don't say Messi <laugh>

I've said before that I think Maxi is a bit hard done by. At least he knows where the goal is. Dirk as well for me should have started more this year but who's gonna cure the lack of goals? Not like we're short of chances so surely a decent poacher would love playing in this team.

11. Arguably, our favoured eleven this season has been Reina, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Enrique, Hendeson, Adam, Spearing, Downing, Suarez and Carroll. Ignoring the back five because they are not in the side to score (although still come up short in terms of goals), there aren't many goals in the side. Downing is yet to registered a league goal, I think he has one assist (correct me if I am wrong). Henderson is not a natural right sided player and does not look like scoring from there. Spearing is yet to score for the club and Adam has got just two in twenty-six appearances. Suarez is not a high scoring striker and Carroll has been struggling. You could argue that Lucas and Gerrard are to come into the line-up as part of the strongest eleven but the former is not going to alter the amount of goals we get from midfield but the latter would. You can look at Kuyt and Bellamy but they are both getting on and can't play every game. Bellamy is the only player with an acceptable return rate at the minute. Is there any wonder we are not scoring the goals?

12. Not every shot is savable. If you lob the keeper, he can't reach it. If you round the keeper, he can't stop the ball when it is already past him. If you put the ball in the corner and out of the keepers reach, he won't save it.

I believe keepers have played well against us but I also think we have to have given them the opportunity to impress.

I agree with all that although I do think Dirk and Bells cud have played more and Maxi as well. It still begs a simple question to me...if I as a complete simpleton can see we have a first team full of players who can't hit a barn door...why did we make no attempt to sign anyone who can score goals? If I was to run thru the games from the start of the season we dominated and should have won we would easily be top three. As I said before footy is about scoring more than whoever you play...it isn't rocket science.

I agree that some keepers have played well against us but we shouldn't be giving them a chance to save it in the first place.

Simple answer...hitting the woodworks about as much use as hitting the corner flag <ok>

There have been some good saves made by the keeper that has saved the bacon of opposing teams but the woodwork has denied us a lot to

I know where you're coming from mate and in all seriousness I've never known a season where we've had such little luck in front of goal. Ultimately however every team has a certain amount of bad luck but there comes a point where you have to say the lack of goals/great keeping/hitting the woodwork isn't just a coincidence and it has to be to a large extent down to **** finishing <laugh>
