Just thinking how much Scottish football will deteriorate over the next 3-5 years. Celtic will be the only club capable of winning the league, which will lead to all of the following:
    1) Less Sponsorship.
    2) Their better players wanting to play in more competitive leagues.
    3) Them not needing to spend as much to win the SPL.
    4) The Scottish UEFA Coefficient for European Qualification and thus number of CL and Uefa spots dropping. This is due to the reliance of the results of Celtic and a weaker 2nd club (Motherwell next year) maintaining this, which they won't.

Anyway, long and short is regardless of whether we're interested in any of the players Rangers will be forced to release, the chance that Hooper then comes to us in the summer (when his contract renegotiations are due) have to be significantly increased.

And what a group of strikers that would be to have next year: Lambert/Hooper/Lee/Sharp.

    More than anything, TV money.

I would suggest that these companies buy mainly for the Old Firm Games and Hibs vs Hearts in the main.

I can see major TV companies deciding against purchasing the rights to the SPL if there were no Old Firm games...

Am I the only person who finds this whole debacle quite funny and not the least bit tragic?

Actually, it could be the tipping point for Celtic [and Rangers if they survive intact] to join the English Football League. The other Scottish clubs want them to leave, or they did the last time the subject was brought up, and the Football League was quite happy about it too. The conditions were quite rigorous too. They would join the Championship and there would be no possible promotion for the new entrants, until the end of the second season. The objectors were the Premier League clubs at the time. They didn't want the potential extra competition. They may take a different view now.

Second Stain! If that were to happen, how do they make room for Celtic and Rangers? Do they relegate 4 from the Championship over two seasons prior to entry keeping the normal 3 up from Division 1?

What an increase in travel costs for South-based clubs. Can see the advantage for Celtic but give me one advantage for English clubs...because I can't see one. The fact is that this is Scotland's problem...how did 2 teams in one city get such dominance.

If Rangers go bust and start an AFC, would they be able to enter the English league?

If Pompey, Darlington or Port Vale go under - and I hope they don't - there'll be a slot in that league which can be filled, leading to Celtic joining the Championship. SPL will get less TV money, but at least it'll be a little more exciting to follow.

Personally I can't see someone *not* coming in for the 'Gers. Any propsective owner is waiting for the dust to settle and hoping to pick up the club cheaper and with less debt.

I don't want Celtic or Rangers in the Championship. The media would have a frenzy and it would take the attention away from the rest of the division's teams, which isn't fair.
