Because he was dropped from the team, and didn't take it particularly well.

So he just fabricated this huge story and made it public? He'd have been shot down and out in his place if he was making it up, you can't just make something like that up and get away with it.

Bob Stokoe must have been so bitter about beating the vermin in 1973.

Just seen the highlights from last night, I didn't realise at the time quite how good Lonergan was. **** me the saves from Koren and McKenna were good but the one from Evans was just chuffing ridiculous.

He was making it up, hence why allegations were dropped when it was discovered there was no evidence.

Oh goodie, are we back to the ancient and thoroughly-discredited bribery claims again?

Honestly, give it a ****ing rest, you tedious small-town, small-club, small-minded ****wits. We don't give a toss how we get our success. Here's a fact for you: you mean **** all to us and we'll always be the greatest club that has ever graced this county. Without Leeds United, Yorkshire football would be lightyears behind where its tradition and history now stands. Be grateful or be ****ing quiet.

Because Sprake was bitter towards Revie for dropping him, then getting rid of him
Stokoe and Revie never got on.

It was quietly sidelined because Revie was England manager by then and the FA were aware that the case was potentially devastating for them, the image of the England game, the integrity of the sport in this country and numerous high profile individuals who took his bribes.

There was plenty of evidence so stop repeating the FA lies.

You say that but yet we can't point out that your team cheat? Equally, you keep saying how little we mean to you but how many posts on this thread are from Leeds fans ****ing over the 4 points you've taken from us this season, and how that is more impotant than the league table? Sounds a lot like you do care. What I know is that you lot change your tune every few seconds.

How come Revie's family never sued?

The main reason is we all want to be part of watching entertaining football and been in the company of people who understand the game because clearly cod heads dont.

I like the way the Hull fans are now saying we bribed our way to success. Even if you do believe that we attempted to bribe other clubs (for which there isn't a shred of valid evidence), there's no proof that we fixed any results. Stokoe's 'evidence' (a vague and disputed accusation that Bremner once said 'go easy' before a game) is testament to that.

So fine, believe the bullshit if you want. It still doesn't mean our success came unfairly. :)

    3 x League winners.
    2 x Fairs Cup winners.
    1 x FA Cup winners.
    1 x League Cup winners.
    1 x European Cup winners.

Bet you lot would love to have an honours list.

Of course you can point out when other teams are cheating. I can never be arsed to because I tend to see that these things even themselves out, and I'm not a whiney victim sort, but go right ahead.

Mentioning the four points we've taken is hardly a rivalry thing, is it? Southampton fans were saying it to us after our recent match, and neither club gives a toss about the other. We've bragged to the likes of Scunny about it before, so don't flatter yourself. It's just standard football fan discourse.

What goes beyond that is the sad-arse Hull fans who boo Marching On Together and sing about us being 'white ****e'. If some of your fans on here were to be believed, no-one in Hull cares about Leeds the club. Pah. My mate yesterday said it's a more one-way rivalry than Stockport-Man City, and he lives in Hull. I'd be tempted to agree.

Because the Don was in Arabia at the time, and possibly knew Bremner was considering suing anyway (which he successfully did; in the process debunking the bribery LIES).

Can't believe we're treading this ancient ground yet again. This is my last say on the matter, because this match thread is turning to **** again. Adieu.

You chose Leeds for entertaining football? <laugh> Presumably you'll find another team after last night then?

Try to be honest at least.

I've never met anyone in East Yorkshire who uses the expression codheads.

By the way, better cod than greasy turkish kebabs

Good to see some vermin fans enjoying the britush fare on offer down anlaby road last night

    Welcome to England!

"With evidence from the former Leeds goalkeeper, Gary Sprake, he exposed Revie as a match-fixer. In fact, it was when Revie discovered that Sprake was about to spill the beans that he vanished to the UAE.

Once Revie had taken up his job with UAE for £340,000 a year (a colossal sum in those days), other witnesses came forward. One of them, a respected player and manager, Bob Stokoe, told how Revie tried to bribe him to lose a match.

By the time Stott had completed his investigation he was able to present the FA with a 315-page dossier cataloguing Revie's long period of corruption.

Revie sued the Mirror for libel, but he did not pursue his legal action."
