Shamelessly nicked from the 442 magazine.

Who do you think has been our worse and best foreign import?

There are a couple of things to bear in mind, however: First, it’s the BEST player, not the ‘most popular’. For example, ask a Chelsea fan to name their favourite foreign player, almost all would say Gianfranco Zola. An incredible talent and worthy candidate for best player, no doubt, but an objective observer could consider the 100+ goals scored over seven years by Didier Drogba, leading the line as the club won 10 trophies, and make a pretty strong case for him to be No.1.

Second, it needs to be based solely on that player’s time at YOUR club. So ignore anything they did before or after. With this in mind, time spent at the club should also be taken into account: Jurgen Klinsmann, for example, holds legendary status at Spurs following two successful spells and is rightly considered one of Germany’s all-time top strikers, but he only played 56 games for Tottenham. Ossie Ardiles, in contrast, pulled the strings in their midfield for over a decade.

    --

As far as WORST foreign player goes, all we ask here is that they played more than just a game or two – that they were actually given the chance to prove their worth (before failing dramatically). Use 10 games minimum as an approximate guide. So we won’t be able to pick that one-game chancer, Ali Dia (aka “George Weah’s cousin”), for example!

For reference, whether Beef_Dripping wants you to know or not - Marian Pahars was voted our best ever foreign player.

Worst - If Dia doesn't count, the likes of Zoltan Liptak and Romain Gasmi have to be up there. My word.

Best - Pahars would be the obivous choice but always thought Anders was unbelievable for a period of about 2 years plus he scored that goal against the Argies while he was with us. Honourable mention to Fernandes who was unplayable for a season and had the hightest workrate out of any player in the EPL. Loved Ekelund but don't think he was in their league. Michael Svensson & Claus as a Scandinavian duo perhaps?! If i had to choose 1 of them it would be Killer of course...

Worst - Kleber Chala, Ecuador captain and a fair bit of hype. Did nothing, literally nothing!

Pahars for me, but Claus deserves a mention. Disagree about Gasmi and Liptak as they didn't play enough to be considered bad. I think Liptak has actually turned out pretty good. I'll go for Delgado.

Best = Pahars (that nutmeg v MU!).
Worst = that other Latvian bloke who's name I've forgotten. He spent an entire season warming up below where my old seat at the Dell was, only to come on in the last 10mins looking knackered. It would be Delgado but for the Arsenal game where he accidently scored and then perfected a slow motion collapse in their area to get a penalty.

    On second thoughts...

If we're talking about foreign players as being non-English, then surely we can look no further than Mr Ron Davies of Wales as our best ever foreign player.
