I have gone on and on on this board about just how good Guly is but still there are those who don't understand what he does for the team. Last night he was our man of the match and I was surprised that he was taken off early other than possibly because he was coming back from illness. Last night Ipswich were in our faces all the time and it would have been a tiring game for him. I sometimes think some of our fans believe they are watching Britains got Talent or whatever other rubbish TV crap there is where the idea of the game is for the panel to be as rude and offensive as possible to participants. I challenge you to be like Nigel and look for the positives and say somthing good about each of the following. For those who can only be negative I have saved you the trouble by putting in the comments the blokes who sit behind me say about each of our players. Kelvin - doesn't command his area Fox - always hoofs the ball Harding - only ever a league 1 player Hooiveld - can't read the game Martin - will never make it as a professional footballer Jose - can't head the ball Butterfield - too short Richardson - can't defend Cork - too lightweight Morgan - can't tackle Hammond - always passes backwards Lallana - wants to beat the man twice De Ridder - no end product another Walcott Chaplow - lots of running but sod all else Guly - lazy bugger Puncheon - not a team player just plain selfish Lambert - we will need to replace him PDQ if we are promoted Lee - runs about a lot but does nothing Sharp - too fat and his positioning is all wrong Connolly - he was past it a long time ago
Relegation awaits. Who are this team your "friends" describe? Luckily I watch a team with players of the same name coincidentally. The goalie's good, the back 4 are pretty strong, regardless of personnel, we have creative midfielders, a bright young bloke playing down the left who gives defenders twisted blood and a pretty effective strike force. I'll stick with you Godders, if you don't mind, and keep supporting one of the best teams in the league rather than the dross you describe.
Missed a Header from 6 yards, and the shot in the second half was well wide. His Head dropped after this. But we shouldn't get on any players back just encouragement.
Kelvin - Excellent shot stopper and experienced head. Fox - One of the best left foots in the league and set up probably over 10 this season Harding - Does well against lesser opponents until up against a rapid winger Fonte - Quick and leads from the back Jos - Best centre back in the league. Richardson - Excellent delivery and solid defensively Butterfield - Great Right peg, major reason we are in the championship. Martin - ...... Cork - Possibly the most composed footballer i've ever seen, excellent on the ball Spiderman - Our most talented player, runs the show week in week out Hammond - Another leader, works hard for the team and brings good balance. Chaplow - Great work rate, and miss his energy when he doesnt play Lallana - Our best outball, runs whoever we are playing raggid, despite getting 'doubled up' on Guly - Has scored a fair few goals this season aswell as offering that touch of class after doing nothing Puncheon - Good energy on the wing, despite final ball lacking sometimes can be hard to handle De Ridder - Unpredictable, can be absolutely unplayable on his day Lmabert - Absolute goal machine. Best finisher i've seen for a long time Lee - Works very hard excellent movement and holds the ball up well aswell Sharp - We all know how good this guy is going to be, scored goals for fun everywhere hes been Connolly - Has that extra bit of class that can unlock defences when the game seems like its pietering out.
Only thing I would say about Guly is he is not a right mid at all. He drifts in to much, if you're going to play him play him just behind the striker.
i can't believe you thought Guly was MOTM. he made about 3 tackles and that was it. SDR came on and changed it.
Are you serious? 3 tackles? Can you count? He was by far the best player defensively. When he was on the pitch we didn't concede. Take him off and bang they score. (okay can't connect those two but hey) I don't get why people don't like Guly. He has scored double figures for us this season and on his day is class. Get over the fact he has bad games because everyone does!
Interesting discussion. Personally I've not seen the best of Guly obviously. Last night I thought he had possibly the best game I've seen from him although he faded a bit in the second half possibly due to lack of match fitness. I'd like to see a winger out right and someone who can swap wings with Lallana. Lallana is so good he can play anywhere. He should be playing all over the place and tormenting the entire back four. Puncheon can do the same when he's playing well.
Sharpshooter, I'm shocked and saddened that you couldn't find anything nice to say about Martin! As for Guly, I'll say it again, his best position is as a second striker and that's the way he wants to play. He is not a natural winger but he does what he's told and he's not that bad at it. The reason he frustrates people is because he tries things that don't always come off, and it's fine to have one player in your team like that as long as everyone else is disciplined. He might mess up a few times but when one of his flicks or tricks comes off we have a great chance to score that we wouldn't have had if he did what lots of people want (i.e. play conservatively).
Sharpshooter has OCD about Aaron, I guess he must have frightened his granny or similar some when in the past?
Like Fonte and Hooiveld were doing at every opportunity last night? Any way, I had no issues with Adkins subbing Guly because ultimately we needed a goal and Guly simply wasn't doing enough offensively. But as I've just said on the other thread, his defensive work was outstanding. Doesn't deserve an ounce of criticism from last night.
Sharpshooter can't say anything nice about Aaron Martin so I'll do it for him. There's plenty of managers in the Championship and Premiership that would give their right leg for a promising young centre back like Martin. He has bags of experience for his age and I am sure will play in the Premiership, whether for us or someone else. But most importantly, Nigel gives him a place every week and didn't feel the need to replace him in January, and if he's good enough for Nigel then he's good enough for me. PS Guly put in a superb defensive perfomance when he came on against Leeds, and no one noticed apart from me and Godders.
I suppose if you wait long enough you will eventually find a post with some sense to it. Most of the posts regarding Guly have been dross except the one above. Some people seem to have an agenda so much so that when he plays very well, they refuse to acknowledge it. In their eyes he is poor and others can do no wrong. Morgan for instance is always "class, outstanding and runs the show" even when he isn't.
