If the programme mentioned Swansea and the homeless issues in the area then JHs post is valid. He has not slagged anyone off, he has not included a cheap shot in his post. He has made a statement that is all. Based on JHs history it is the Swans fans who are making this an issue and i understand why, you are thinking JH is sat in his student digs laughing. He probably is because you have over reacted as he knew you would. Read the post again, have a think about it then slap your heads and say DOH!
exactly taff, its not as if this was posted on the swansea board, and its started on the swansea board, so they've come on to this thread hoping to be offended by something he says. as it happens, he discusses the issue of homelessness, after viewing a thought provoking documentary on TV. nowhere does he state that this social issue is confined to swansea. he also makes a perceptive point contrasting the increasing riches of football in this country with the challenging economic times, arguing that in society the gini coefficient is steadily increasing, meaning the gap between richer and poorer is widening....
A lot of negativity coming from the swansea lot instead of reading the thread properly they once again have jumped in with both feet in their gobs just to try and have a go. Its not my fault BBC1 made this documentary about the state of swansea and all the drop outs there ,i just see it every day . The program was the sad sorry state down swansea at the moment and according to them its getting worse every day!!!
Well after watching the program and seeing no one interviewed was from Swansea. I've decided.....****em football is more important
I did not see the programme so unable to comment on the content, however I think we should show some compassion to those unfortunate to be homeless, whether in Swansea, Cardiff, Bristol, London etc. I'm thankful that I have a roof over my head and a warm bed to go to. I think as the cuts start hurting there will be many more in cardboard boxes. I remember Thatcher. End of rant.
Wonder what the ConDems will do when the Olympics come around. Will they make a huge rug to sweep all the homeless in London under?
As i said ,i watched the program and only people from Ireland,Maesteg and Port Talbot interviewed. And as the program was made by BBC (Cardiff)Wales not even Swansea's indigenous homeless wanted to speak to anyone from Cardiff..So homeless but with impeccable taste
Problem is along with Thatcher I also remember Heath and Wilson in the early 70s and the winter of discontent with the petrol rationing, 3 day week and power cuts. We now have 3rd generation benefit claimants and benefit cheats to go along with the super rich who have no soul. I do not agree with a lot of what Thatcher did but like it or not she put the UK back on the map for a little while. Democracy isn't perfect but it's a damned sight better than communism.
Thatcher said "There is no such thing as society" and spent the next 10 years destroying it. I for one will party when the bitch dies.
i wasnt alive in the 80's, but i've done research before on thatchers economics and the graphs suggest the policies worked.... please log in to view this image DJ, you sound like my grandad, whenever i was at his house he would always rant at me about politics even though i was only like 10, he always found something to complain about
Swamp, I lived through the 80's, your grandad is right. Whats that saying about statistics. "There's lies damned lies and then there's statistics" and Thatcher used them all.
Pull the other one John, you made the post for one reason and one reason only, to get a rise out of some Swans fans - same as most of your posts - must be so frustrating now you're banned from our boards
Relevant anthem then and posibly in the near future: No time for the Condems.
well maybe i was fed pro margaret thatcher stuff by the lecturer (who happened to be an economic advisor to the conservative government in the 80's )
I was overseas for the majority of the 80s serving in the army, so can't comment on the day to day lifestyle of the common man. All I know is we were dirt poor and when I left school jobs were at a premium. However, during that time the hardship of the 70s were forgotten and the good times seemed to roll in, not unlike when Tory Blair came to power. I guess politics are cyclical and over time some things are forgotten and the bad times always remembered. More so for the poor folk directly affected by the miss-management of national funds by ALL parties.
