Dunno? But I'm not sure what that has to do with my point? Birmingham don't have a really big fan base and they rarely, if ever, sell out their ground for any game (Their highest attendance was against Newcastle in the league with 28k, which is 2k under capacity). My point is that because of the lack of high profile games the two teams have been involved in (no cup finals or competing for something other than midtable in the league) there isn't much interest in the game outside of Newcastle and Sunderland fans. I think its a fair point, and it wasn't meant as a slight on your derby or any of the two clubs, just an observation that the derby just hasn't caught the imagination outside of the North East, very much like the Midlands derby.
Understood, I was just trying to make the point that our game is a much bigger event than the second city derby in terms of local involvement and I'd venture to suggest in terms of the level of passion and sense of occasion making it potentially an event worthy of greater interest outside the immediate area, whereas your original comment placed the two games on the same level. The fact however that in spite of this we regularly fail to get interest outside the area does stand. I guess you'd have to concede the same point about the merseyide derby too - no longer played by two regularly succesful sides
As I said I live in the South West at the moment Im aware that most of the media Im thinking of Talk Sport/Radio 5 etc are embarrassingly "London Centric"....Ive often thought of ringing up and saying Ifonly we had branches of Wickes in the North maybe things would be better Whether we like it or not these perceptions of "The Derby" are driven by the media....but matches like Sundays and success will change things in the end. I could be sick when I hear these second rate pros giving it large as they say...they `d really prefer to talk about Arsenal or Tottenham reserves than a Northern team.....Excuse me while I rinse my mouth out.....
Bespoke the thread had disappeared off the front page and died by natural causes until you resurrected it to suggest it should closed? But happy to oblige, its time has past
Not your decision................. That's what makes his futile appeal so pointless.............. Just let it die through the pages....
Cheers Comm - As I've just realised I don't know how to actually close an article, I'll do just that. . .
I can close it for you mate...but as it was widely accepted by most it seems a shame... It's your choice.....................
I don't like you... it's because you're a jumped-up, self-important, pretentious little bum-squeak. If you look at my comment again, you will notice "" at the end. This signifies that it's not a serious comment. Now get ****ed you ignorant ****-for-brains ***got.
Now i could come back with allsorts here.....but as this has been a good thread i won't... As at the end of the day, your opinion means nothing to me......
It had almost died anyway until it got this bump. Good thread, should just go through natural causes.
Indeed. No further bumping required - let's just let it go in a peaceful way... floating down-stream in a tranquil fashion until it finally rests in thread heaven. Amen.
Seeing as it keep getting bumped... FOOTBALL Newcastle midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa has set his sights on breaking into the Newcastle first team and achieving plenty more beyond that. He told France Football: "Let's see in three or four years. Then, I see myself at the top, winning, for example, the World Cup in Brazil or the Ballon D'Or, because I still have lots of dreams." Come on Mags.....can he do it?
I think those are pretty lofty ambitions. Needs to learn to walk before he can run. By that I mean he needs to get a consistent level of form that makes it impossible to leave him out. He can do that but I'm not sure France will be good enough to win a world cup and the Ballon D'Or is probably a non starter unless Messi retires. Talent wise, he is certainly up there but he has yet to apply himself fully.
Liverpool fan, look at the league and cry. All that money spent and you can't get above us This is a thread to calm the shredded nerves of both sets of fans (both better than the liverpool fans). I don't like Sunderland, but I respect their fans, which is something I could never do for Liverpool.
So, are we all agreed that we won't post anything further on thsi thread ? Replies from everyone please
