No, this is not a thread about their brilliant strike-partnership, instead I just wished to make a point on how both of them over the past couple of weeks have, in interviews, praised us fans for our dedication, encouragement and vocal/numerical support. Its quite refreshing to read that both seem to appreciate the fans and recognise that we play an integral part in the club, not just financially, but as the 12th man on match-days (perhaps to equal the twelve men we normally have to play against ). Ben Hamer and Danny Haynes take note.... As for that brilliant strike-partnership...27 goals between them so far with 12 games left to play.
Certainly i checked out Danny Haynes tweets over the weekend - and he was VERY complimentary on more than one occassion about Addicks and Charlton support in general.
I'm not at all saying he isn't, I love the guy and on the odd occasion when I've taken a look at his twitter he seems to get along well with the fans. But I found it quite odd and frustrating that he did an interview with Newsshopper telling fans to "lay off BWP", and two weeks later BWP himself did an interview saying how much the fans have supported him during his barren run.
I still don't think Hamer or Haynes said anything wrong. Those comments weren't made to the supporters as a whole, but the few who were calling for BWP to leave as he had ''lost interest'' etc. And with Hamer, I think he was right in the booing. To boo is ridiculous, considering our position.
Personally I feel they did quite a lot of wrongdoing in saying such things. As a fan who supported BWP throughout his barren spell and have not booed the team this whole season (I'll say nothing about the past few seasons though ) I felt quite offended by the comments. On a more collective level though, rather than bring the fans on-side, it creates a distance between us fans and the players, when what is really needed is a shared identity. Not to mention such comments affect how we are viewed as supporters in the local community (any by rival fans). Its not the players job to criticize the fans, especially when they have experienced nothing of our downfall, arriving only in a season when we are 'on the up' as a club. Also, the booing as I have said before, seemed to be directed at the fact that the whistle was blown (something which happens all the time) considering it lasted about 3 seconds, which the players then subsequently applauded off of the pitch.
I have to say that every time we don't win at home I am a bit of a boo boy in that I a little on the way home......
I hope you read the NewsShopper Kermorgant story! http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/sport/...9162.Addicks_ace_hoping_to_reward_supporters/ ... written by me!
We may well have the best front pairing in the Division and they have both done well and seem to get on well, but I would not yet call it a "brilliant strike-partnership". We cannot expect much more from either of them individually (now BWP has got his mojo back) but I think there is a still a lot of work to be done on, and hopefully more to come from, their partnership. They don't always seem to have the sort of instinctive telepathy of many great strike partnerships such as Mendonca/Hunt, or even of Taylor and Morrison at the back. Perhaps it will come with time.
A very good point Eddie and I agree entirely. I mis-used the word partnership and should instead have opted for 'pairing'. Kermorgants flick-on's seem very hit and miss, and thus BWP doesn't quite seem to have got the hand of getting on the end of them or predicting where they will be placed. Individually though they are two brilliant strikers - as a target man I'd say Kermit is the best in the division, possibly I may even say he's one of the best outside of the top flight. As a 'poacher' I feel there's very few players as good as BWP in this division - there are a few 'out and out' scorers (Rhodes, Evans etc), but players who capitalise upon every lose ball, and are adept at finding perfect positioning, are hard to come by in this league.
