I hope you lose against Cov and Bristol, but only because that will hurt Pompey and increase their chances of relegation.
I think we'd probably have to win 9 maybe 10 of our last 15 to get into the play-offs. It's possible but I don't think we've shown anywhere near enough consistency to put such a run together I'm afraid. I've already started to have half an eye next season (FA Cup aside) where I think we'll have a better chance.
As the old cliché goes, now we are out of the league we can concentrate on the cup. Or was it supposed to be the other way round? Even if we go on a storming run, we need the top clubs to completely lose their form. I want to believe but just can't see it happening.
48 points with 13 games left 8 wins in the last 11 games (all competitions) is playoff form. If we can get 2 points per game that would give us 74 points---maybe good enough to sneak in---especially as we have games against a good few of those above us
Win tommorow and a draw at Reading will do nicely. But with the form of Nugent and Beckford anything is possible
Win tomorrow AND against Reading (and let's face it, we are due one against them) and we will really put the heebie jeebies up those ahead of us in play-off spots
I reckon 8 out of 13 wins and we'd have a good chance. Can probably only afford to lose 2 games max. though
I have us finishing on 70 points at the end of the season - not good enough for the playoffs but an improvement over last season. But I still have that little flame of hope that we can do better...
I´ll stick to my original post & say we´ll miss out & in some ways I hope we do. REASONS. 1. NP can really sort the team out in the summer. 2. build on what we have (after the summer) bit by bit. 3. Take the npower next season. 4. 1 more season in the npower won´t do us any harm. 5. Then we´ll be really ready for the prem. There could be a risk if we did go up this season, I mean, I would´nt want a season scrapping down the bottom like Blackburn are doing this season for i.e & run the risk of going down. I´d like to build a team to good for the npower (like WHU) then go up & add to an already prem team, if you catch my drift ?
1884: I'd really like to scrape into the playoffs as it will add some excitement to the end of this season, but not bothered about winning the playoffs if we do, for the reasons you mention. However, if we "won two lotteries" and did get promoted this season, at least we'd get that extra PL dosh to help us stay there.. Let's just concentrate on outplaying and beating Brizzle convincingly - unless we can do that, we have no realistic chance of getting past 8th IMO.
This. Wins against Blackpool, Hull, Birmingham, Burnley, West Ham and Leeds to come. We'll have to beat those above us to get where we want to be.
Brum have been hit by a spate of injuries plus financial 'revelations' - the Cup has also proved a distraction that may not be welcome overall (particularly if they pick up any further injuries tonight and lose into the bargain) - unless either of you implode, I would now expect you and West Ham to occupy the top 2 spots - but if either of you fail I wouldn't necessarily think you would be favourites to go up via the paly-offs (as history has proven for 3rd spot teams) due to the anti-climax effect - Good luck.
