Thanks for the inundation from NUFC kiddie-hordes, you can leave now so we can concentrate on more pressing matters such as the FA Cup.

On balance and upon reflection - thanks for your input but overall, I feel you came out of it yesterday 2nd best. Brag all you want, but it doesn't change the fact you were basically lucky.

Cheers for the inundation on our boards as well, oh yes, that's not just for the weekend.

No its a game we should have won, both on paper and the balance of the game yesterday. But it highly amusing that Shola pissed on the mackem chips again, and we've secured bragging rights for another season. Will Sunderland ever win another derby?

Well only one club in the NE can actually win something this season.

    That's a fact.

JOHN O’SHEA believes Sunderland would have taken the derby spoils if they hadn’t been reduced to 10 men through Stephane Sessegnon’s dismissal.

Sessegnon was inconsolable in the away dressing room at the Sports Direct Arena yesterday after becoming the third Black Cats player to be dismissed in the last three meetings with the Magpies – skipper Lee Cattermole then becoming the fourth when he was shown a red card by referee Mike Dean following the final whistle.

While Sunderland, particularly O’Shea and central defensive partner Michael Turner, defended heroically after Sessegnon’s 57th-minute sending off, they were barely able to trouble Newcastle at the other end in the closing stages.

Despite Simon Mignolet’s penalty save to deny Demba Ba, the pressure from the hosts ultimately paid off when Shola Ameobi grabbed an injury-time equaliser.

O’Shea said: “If we had kept it to 11 men, we’d have definitely won.

“It was a great performance from the lads. We battled right to the end, but, unfortunately, we just couldn’t hold out for that last couple of minutes.

“Newcastle had us under a lot of pressure, especially when we went down to 10 men. But we responded quite well and we seemed able to cope with it.

“Unfortunately though, when you’re down to 10 men, you can’t really use the counter-attack as well as we had been doing earlier.

“When Simon saved the penalty, you think it’s going to be your day, but credit to Newcastle, they kept putting the ball in the area.”

Sunderland had by far the best of the opening 45 minutes, making all the running going forward until Ba headed against the bar on the stroke of half-time.

Despite the Magpies dominating possession after the break, they struggled to get in behind Sunderland, only to level when Yohan Cabaye’s mis-hit cross made its way through to Ameobi via Mike Williamson’s flick-on.

O’Shea added: “They were quite direct early on in the game and we felt we had them covered.

“We were attacking quite well on the counter-attack, especially in the first half.

“They weren’t really causing us any problems and we felt quite comfortable.

“We went a goal up through big Nick (Bendtner) and him and Sessy were causing them problems up the top.

“At the start of the second half, we knew Newcastle would come at us and they did – they had a good five or 10-minute spell when they had us under the cosh.

“But we dealt with it and, unfortunately, Sessy has got the red card and we were up against it.

“They brought off their new lad who they’ve signed (Papiss Demba Cisse) and you know the local lad (Ameobi) will get a big roar and be up for it himself.

“It’s just unfortunate that the lad mis-hit his cross, it dropped short and the lad was able to flick it on.

“They got the benefit of a poor cross and, unfortunately, we couldn’t keep it out.”

    ...............................................

Maybe,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but they always had Shola Ameifuckingobi (sp) to to it....

I'm sure that was said in '73.
Fact is we have a chance. Fact is, you as usual...DON'T.

You shouldn't hit our players then should you?

We were all over you from the 40th minute onwards.

Does that go for Krul shoving McClean in the chest as well or is that not an issue because McClean didn't make one of it?

Aye your lot have a trophy laden recent history too. <laugh> I suppose straw clutching today is only natural with reality dawning that not only have the bragging rights deservedly gone to us again, but your lot won't even win the north east mini league you have held so dear in recent years. I wouldn't worry, it's just normal order being restored. Everton away, no thug Cattermole, no thug Sessengnon. Yeah the smart money says the most you'll get from it is more tired legs! Better luck next year.

God no. Not won the cup since '73. Only won the English league 6 times...Shocking for a club of Sunderland's stature.
Still, at least we have a chance, however small you think it is, of claiming a pot this year.

Nah. We have no need to worry. O'Neill is a good manager but not good enough to get Sunderland out of our shadow. Its not his fault, we're just a very progressive side at present on a much sharper upward curve than Sunderland

O'Niell may not have understood the derby beforehand, but he certainly does now. We got to him, like we have done to every Sunderland manager who eventually loses the plot trying to beat us and finish ahead of us. You'll want him out soon.

ah well, the toon fans showing in buckets why they are regarded as deluded, a draw at home against 10 men and they are still claiming a moral victory.....................

There is a stench of fear and dread coming from Newcastle, they realise that MON is head and shoulders above the fool Pardew, if any manager got wound up it was him, Newcastle has got into his skin, he will be smashing up the Bigg Market next..................
