Lonergan - 7 1/2 - Played well when called upon, didnt really have much to do and couldn't do anything about the goal Bromby - 6 - At part fault for the goal, didnt play well and for me was a poor decision for him to start, Connolly was much better after coming on Lees - 8 - Played very well, didnt have that much to do but cleared things up and was very assured. One tackle he made in the penalty area was just fantastic, although saying that, he did allow Saints players to get a couple shots from a nice range without closing them down properly but still had a very good game O'Dear - 7 - Again played well in truth apart from the goal, he was also at part fault and just basically ball-watched that, didn't attack it whatsoever. He had Lees covering for him a few times but he was positive in winning headers (apart from the goal) and looked quite good. Pugh - 8 - Played very well, he was our only defender for the last 15 mins of the game really. Played very well defensively and already much prefer him at LB than white. He understands the game better and the defending he did when 2 saints players broke away was amazing. Really solid and also got forward when he wasn't the only player defending White - 6 1/2 - Im gonna get flamed for this but he is just incapable of using his right foot. Thats terrible for a proffessional footballer, he's got pace and not much else but he did put a few good balls into the box on occassion Clayton - 8 - Was fantastic and run the game really, did really well not much else needs to be said Brown - 8 - Was also fantastic in his position and did not look like 34 or whatever he is. The pressure he was putting saints players under this game was part of the reason why we dominated early on Snodgrass - 7 - Quite poor at the simple things really, his passing was out as well as he retaining of the ball at times, quite dissapointed with him for a game we dominated so well, couldn't really run the game the way he normally does. But he did do some things that was just awesome, the amount of times he beat richardson was unbeleivable. But I will say I don't think he is a CM, needs a free role if he is to play central. I much prefer him on the right McCormack - 8 1/2 - Did very well again. He was more roaming around the pitch, didnt ever see him stuck in one position and really made the most of it. Im just frustrated that a clear cut chance didnt fall to him Becchio - 7 - Did well but he NEEDS to be more clinical. Lambert showed what a player of this type should be like, you get your chance, you score. Very wasteful stuff, although was unlucky at times. He did generally better at holding the ball up although still not as good as what he should be. Lambert was better than him and saints hardly saw the ball Connolly - 7 - Much better choice than Bromby at RB, just annoying that all the others need to get injured to see him play. Did the simple things better and looked to get forward often Webber - 7 1/2 - Very impressed with him and I am more than prepared to eat my words. Changed the game for the better when he came on, had a mad 10 mins and seemed to die down (could be because he hasn't played for 18 months). Shoulda scored but looked that slight bit rusty so I'll let him off. Much better than white imo Sam - 7 - Didn't really do much by the time he came on, but did a few decent things Warnock - 8 - A couple questionable things in his line-up (Bromby and White playing RW) but his tactics were spot on and we ran that game. Referee - 3 - ****ing ****, very poor decisions. Not just the penalty call but just everything, it wasn't even as though he was biased he was just **** Agree, disagree, do whatever
Agree on most josh except for white, thought he played very well.First game playing there,I think he will only get better with more games.
I thought Clayton was worth a 9 and was a tad disappointed with the highly rated Snodgrass. Still can't believe we came away with the points. Big plus for you is that Neil Warnock is happy with the performance and I can see him getting you up. If not this season definitely next. Good luck for remainder of season.
Josh, the penalty claim was questionable. The guy's arm was in front of his face & he was on the ground. C'est La Vie. Sometime you get them, sometimes you don't. Apart from O'dea going to sleep for a couple of seconds to give Lambert the space for his shot, it looked a good performance. As Webber looks like playing wide left, who will drop out, our LB (White) who can play wide left, or Pugh who is arguably our normal wide left?
The way there keeper was playing he would have probably saved any penalty given. I am extremely happy with what I saw yesterday, you win some you lose some when it comes to ref decisions and I know we lost but boy, that was one of the best I have seen us play in a very long time. Becchio was showing signs of looking like he is nearing his best again, White was fantastic down the right, Webber looked a good player to bring off the bench, he wasn't a shrinking violet and he too created chances, the whole team apart from O'Dea loosing Lambert for the goal put in a top notch performance. If Warnock is going to have them playing like this week in and week out then it will be a joy. Apart from the result I have nothing negative to say about that match, substitutions were timely and good, tactics looked nice and we were winning balls and breaking down their play for the full 90 minutes and we were doing it cleanly. Keep White right wing, he caused the TOP team in the division no end of problems, I would have to give the whole team 8/10 and performance wise playing as a team a 9/10 - Remember this was no bottom of the table team we were playing, on another day we could have come away from this with a 4-0 win.
If only White chad a right foot we would have equalised.I thought on another day Webber would have got an Hattrick but overall very good display .I like marmite he his a breath of fresh air
"****ing ****, very poor decisions. Not just the penalty call but just everything, it wasn't even as though he was biased he was just ****" Yep sounds about right to me. I understood what he was trying to do - duhh let play flow I'm mr lenient - which is all well and good, if you can do it consistently. He really, really didn't.
I am still not entirely convinced. We played like that and couldn't score against an amazing defence, basically says at our best we're not good enough to go up. EDIT: I've just watched it again on the highlights, and I take that back. How we didn't absolutely turn them over I have no idea. Absolutely mortified. Get someone decent instead of Darren O'Dea and we're gunna go far. Danny Webber looked absolutely incredible.
The good fact is that we made them look like they had an awful defence, the S'ton defence deserves zero credit, we were all over them. Take away the keepers performance and we would have won that by 4 or even 5 goals then nobody would have said a good defensive display
Clayton deserves a 9.5 for me. did everything but score. one of the best games ive ever seen from a championship midfielder. Becchio was also very impressive and only lacked a goal.he won more headers and showed more good 1st touches than the rest of the season put together.
I,m quite sure Warnock will do a good job for Leeds - cannot argue with his record but I.m not fond of his as a person - too much mouth. He may have had a case re the penalty against Saints, but conveniently fails to mention the obvious penalty Pompey should have had last week. It evens out over a season. Good luck Leeds - not sure how you are going to get rid of Bates - he treats you fans with utter contempt & you deserve better
He said last week that the Pompey one was definitely a penalty, but was balanced out by our wrongly disallowed goal.
Webber missed a sitter, even if he was under pressure, and could have done more with the other two chances he had as well. Livewire, but no end product. Pugh was pathetic for their goal and shouldn't be played left-back. Don't know what to think of him. Typical arrogant little Manc with his upturned collar and only putting a proper shift in when he's on the telly is what immediately springs to mind. Like his playing style, but he has a lot to learn if he's going to become proper Leeds.
Thats clearly not true. Early season he bossed almost every game. probably ran out of steam abit in his first season playing regularly at this level. maybe a kick up the arse from warnock is what he needed
I thought Leeds looked good, Warnock set his stall out well. I was quite surprised when Webber came on, thought he'd be in extensive training for at least a week! But other than the over hit pass & the 'omg how did you miss that' sitter, he did make a good impact. I do believe you'll make a push for the last P/O spot, & with Neil barking orders, I wouldn't rule it out. Good luck for the remaining games guys.
Sorry but if Warnock said this, then he's talking pish. O'Dea simply was nowhere near Lambert, when as the defender he should have been marking Lambert, O'Dea yet again let the team down, no more excuses he's pish and always has been.
He looked good early season, but raised his game significantly for the Bradford and West Ham games which were on telly. A kick up the arse is definitely in order, and he needs to be playing the ball on the ground more often, in my opinion. When he's our main creative outlet, it means that his (admittedly precise) hoofs to Becchio end up bypassing Snoddy completely, and that means we semi-exclude our captain and best player.
