Pretty much the entire first half, yes you were way better than us and deserving of your lead, but we battered you the entire second half. Obviously the sending off helped us but we were dominating the game before Sessegnon went.

Wouldn't say you were dominating, asides from Ben Arfa you were poor and resorted to hoofball. You only really looke dangerous from set pieces.

We weren't battering you like we did after Sessegnon went, but I'd say we were dominant. Anyway Sunderland were the better team for 45, we were the better team for 45, so a draw was the fair result really.

I agree Tino thought it was fair, Ben Arfa looks a talent, needs to learn to pass though.

Definitely had one of his better games, last week though he was incredibly poor just running out of play the entire time - I mean like REALLY terrible. Needs to get that consistency and as you say learn to release the ball at the right time but is without doubt the most naturally-gifted player in our squad.

Good luck to you lot for the rest of the season, great well-contested affair.

Reminded me a bit of Sess when he was first adapting, the talent is obviously there but not quite the end product, he needs game time and he could be a very good player.

Enjoyed the derby, had a bit of everything, good luck for the rest of the year and we will see if we can finally topple you mags next time;)

    1st half was 12 v 11 with Mike Dean playing a blinder

After sess went it reverted to 11 v 11 and the battering commenced

    11v11 - 1st Half - All Sunderland

    11v11 - 2nd Half - First 10 minutes - All Newcastle

    11v10 - All Newcastle

We could and should have beaten you lot. I felt the penalty against was harsh but not wrong, it was a foul but it happens all the time in every game, every week, just a shame it had to be given today as Turner wasn't going to get anywhere near it.

We had a few decent shouts for penalties ourselves, the biggest being a clear hand ball (by Turner?) As for "Tiote should've been sent off". Cattermole was lucky to even get tired, was a poor challenge 43 seconds into the game. You really couldn't have argued if he'd seen red, it was touch and go but for the benefit of the game a yellow card seemed right.

Only other thing I can say is, I think this game has wrecked your season. Sessegnon out for 3 games, Cattermole 4 and potentially Campbell and Bridge banned aswell.

Sunderland fans seem to forget, in the first 15 minutes of the second half I think the ball was only in our box once, when Krul made the double save. Fair enough, in the first half they dominated us for 40 minutes, but after that we got into the game. As for tiote, we all know he made a meal of it, but he wouldn't have had to had Sess not swung his arm in his face, not to mention the fact the referee was only around 5 yards and looking straight towards the incident regardless.

Take your Red and White tinted glasses off you idiot, your player hit our player in the face and deservedly got sent off. You could have been down to 10 within a minute as well!

Mike Dean was shocking today. Sunderland were better in the first half fair enough, but all their chances came from free kicks because they were rolling around clutching their legs every time one of our players went near them. Cattermole should have walked in the first minute, Gardner was persistently fouling, Turner was all over Ba and should have conceded a penalty at the end of the first half and in the second half for a blatant handball, McClean was persistently fouling and pulled HBA's shirt all over (outside the box) in the second half when he went down admittedly looking for a penalty. They got away with all sorts today, absolute bunch of cheats the lot of them. It's bitterweet tbh because I'm happy we didn't lose (would have been daylight robbery if Sunderland had won that game) but I'm disappointed because we hit the bar, had a few other good chances, missed a pen and were denied 2 other blatant penalties too....ok now I'll take a breath.

Sunderland edged (only just) what was a VERY poor premier league match in the first half, attributed to both teams.

Sunderland's game plan from the first whistle was to play 'ugly' as Pardew called it, and the first 45 was niggly, bitty, scrappy, stop-start and dismal to watch. They took the lead the only way both sides looked like scoring, with a refereeing decision.
That said, had Ba's header off the bar at the end of the first half gone in (when Newcastle were already piling on decent pressure) then there could have been few complaints.

Sunderland up to that point had done well to stifle the match, granted, but they had hardly strung enough quality together to warrant a lead. Granted, the penalty was a penalty by the letter of the law – in a game where Newcastle could just as easily have had three.

Second half was all Newcastle's, having calmed down at half time and gained enough composure to deliver the only periods of sustained quality for the whole match. This happened LONG before the Sessegnon red card.
In fact, the red card probably worked against them if anything. The game at that point would have remained much more open.

All this nonsense about Tiote's reaction is pathetic. His reaction was delayed and exaggerated, but it had no impact on the referee decision – he had his card out before Cheick knew what had hit him. If you fling out an elbow like that, you deserve to go and the player on the receiving end has license to react any which way he wants. All players do exactly the same thing and its usually to alert the ref to an incident too often missed. It was not a dive, he didn't cheat, there was clear contact. Quite frankly, given Mike Dean's reluctance to give much Newcastle's way first half I wondered if he'd collapsed with shock.

Overall, given the match stats and the fact Newcastle played the majority of the football throughout the 90 minutes I remain stunned that Sunderland fans are annoyed to have snatched a point. And what game Martin O'Neill thought he was talking about in the post match interviews, I have no idea...
