You are right that we need to increase our income streams. The new stadium is interesting. I wouldn't be surprised to find that the cost (or at least the full cost) does not appear on LFC's books.

Naturally CL income next season would be an advantage but is not a deciding factor on investment - provided that it is achieved by the 3rd year of this programme.

Notice that you are not commenting upon FFP's likely effect upon you ;)

It wouldn't matter if it did - FFP doesn't include stuff like capital or youth investment. It's going to be interesting to see how quickly FSG can get it going, and whether the debt involved will be a similar short term burden for Liverpool as it was for Arsenal.

Tbh as long as we have the Glazers and SAF in charge we won't have a big issue - SAF isn't keen on spending vast amounts on a regular basis and the Glazers obviously won't want to encourage him! The only time it will become a factor is when SAF leaves - if we bring in an outside manager he'll probably want to rebuild most of the squad which would be costly in the short term. Also if we end up with someone like Mourinho or Benitez they'll probably need to spend each season or the team will go backwards.

But even then I'm not particularly concerned. Our revenue last year was £330 million, over £100 million ahead of anyone else in the PL, so even with £45 million in interest we still have cash to burn. Last year we had operating profits of £110 million, less £45 million interest and £35 million player amortisation (effectively £35 million of spending on players each year) to give profits of around £30 million. And revenue is growing by around 15% a year which is higher than anyone else is managing right now apart from City who are a long way back revenue wise.

That rate of growth obviously won't last forever, but with the shirt deal up for renewal next year and kit sponsorship a couple of years after that it will keep us safe for the foreseeable future.

And Sessegnon off now - gonna be an interesting last few minutes as SJP! Interesting for Liverpool...a Sunderland win would give you a decent chance of overhauling Newcastle, but would leave Sunderland hot on your heels and in decent form for the run in.

Newcastle 1 - Sunderland 1 - that's probably the best result for us. With both Sessegnon and Cattermole missing for our visit, it may make life a little easier.

As for United's position I don't believe you!

Quelle surprise! Any details on why / what you don't believe, or is it just a matter of principle for you not to believe anything good about Utd? ;)

Much worse news for Liverpool. Mourinho returning would make the most vulnerable member of the top five that much stronger. Making it even longer before you can dream of the top four again...

We know he will return to England, that is a given. Have always had a feeling he is lined up for the United job, but Chelsea makes sense, the Spurs job will be vacant too.

Yes and no, to your answer.
You need to spend to get top players in. Kenny has spend a shed load and other than 1 cup (may be 2) you have not pushed for a top 4th position and thats what matters over a cup, as we all know the money is in the CL.

Now dare I say, you could now go finish in front of the Chavs :)

<laugh> I can see him loving that. He'd probably be the only manager to actually relish all the media attention that comes with being England boss!

Whoever gets him, will have an exciting few years, with a fair few trophies. Love him or hate him, his teams win.

    Good match to watch.

Cattermole sent of at the end of the match for dissent.

Was he? I knew that his earlier yellow meant that he was going to miss our game.

Mourinho is too aware of his legacy to risk going back to Chelsea.

I think he'll end up at City. Perhaps not next season but the season after when Mancini is sacked for not winning the CL.

I'm not so sure. Mourinho has said that he has "unfinished business" with Chelsea. However, the re-building that needs to be done there looks daunting.
