Well, 3/4 of the season gone in the BIG TIME and what have we learned about our Swansea?

Well pretty much the same that we learned when we got promoted up the divisions previousy.

    Lets break it down:

PRE-SEASON: Every pundit jumping on the bandwagon saying we were shooting above our weight and making the new boys favourites to go down. This year it was Hanson et al, 3 years ago it was Clardige and the mob.

1/4 season: Thank **** for our home form. Though not great, it made up for a solitary point earned away from home. HOWEVER... those were tough away games for any side , let alone a newly promoted side. The team realised where they were - no cake walk here boys. At times, they looked in awe.
Anyone remember similar things happening in our first season in the Championship? First season there, we had great home form again, but away at the very start was a rocky road ..... but the lads started to adjust.

1/2 Season: We could see real steps on the away form performances, while fortress liberty was still standing proud. Granted, only 2 points earned away in this quarter... but we knew we were playing better. Still written off by the pundits due to the worst away form in the league.

3/4 Season: They have adjusted and arrived. 9 points gained away from home this term. The guys are learning. Now the 7th worst away form in the Prem... not a bad rise in one quarter. Home form still better than teams like Liverpool and our players growing by the game. As Brendan says, "Intelligent footballers". We have adapted throughout and who knows what next season holds since this Swansea team has not taken a single step backwards for a decade. Quote BR, "I'd take your hand and bite it off" when asked if he would have taken this position at the start of the season.

If only the pundits could adapt as well. I quote Mr Hansen tonight, "Swansea City, eminantly beatable". Keep righting us off you idiots as it's done us no harm over the last decade!

Your Hansen quote is taken completely out of context, are you a journalist in disguise?! :p

Other than that I agree with everything! We're still growing into this league and I think we'll just get better and better. It'll take something unbelievable to see us relegated from this position, although stranger things have happened in football. I'm still looking up though. I'm pretty sure that the lowest we've finished in a division since the great escape is 10th (in Division 3 the year after we escaped the football league trapdoor); and I wouldn't write us off achieving a top 10 finish yet this season.

The likes of Hansen,(great player, but now well past his sell-by date),still think that The P.L. is the exclusive domain of the Big 5,or is it 6 Clubs, and that the rest are there to merely make up the numbers, and to act as cannon fodder.
He also used the term "it's only Swansea" tonight, and that REALLY endears him to me,and I'm sure other Swans' fans.
Hopefully,at least two,but possibly all three, of the newly promoted Clubs will get to give it another go next season, and with the addition of Southampton, and a rejuvenated West Ham,really shake The P.L. up in Season 2012-2013.

Taking quotes out of context is manna from heaven when it comes to giving a team talk!

PS don't ever use those words against me again.... "pisshead, lazy, underachieving, fanatical useless piece of ****" I will take from my wife, but journalist!

As usual, the fans jump on comments from pundits. You're starting to sound like Norwich fans fishing for compliments. Who needs them? Do your talking on the pitch I say.

But to be fair Hansen has been oozing praise for us this season, along with Lawrenson and Shearer. As BK points out the Hansen comment was made in the context of Wigan having to win games from here on in and you'd expect them to be targeting this one today. Our away form is still pretty rubbish isn't it?

So ease up. We get plenty of praise.

Your assessment of the season is about right though.

I think it's been a good learning curve so far , but between Caulker coming out of his defensive shell & looking to score & assist on goals suddenly & Sig becoming a sniper of sorts , I think the teams we are left to play have a lot more to learn ... I 'm more confident now of reaching 50 points as I ever was .

I'm glad we've done what we have these last ten years, as it's been a great tonic for our kids, my two lads, one twelve the other 18, both love the Swans, and they no longer have Chelsea and Manu as their team they follow, and even on their Xbox Fifa game they are wearing the Swans colours, long may our forward movement as a club continue, and it's my wish, that we establish ourselves as a Premiership team, without getting caught into the trap of Player greed. What more could I wish for than to support an honest club, with an honest team of players, with their feet on the ground, and we don't want to lose that!.......................

Phil I know where your coming from. My 14 year old got hooked on the Swans after the FA Cup game against Reading some years ago. He only supports The Swans, he does however like Barcelona. His X Box tag in Sinclair and he also has his Ultimate team in Swans colours. I know I'm exiled in the dark country, but boy when I go to work we talk football and I'm so proud to say I support The Swans and have done since a wipper snapper of a 8year old.

Good thread. last few comments have reminded me that football isn't always just a game. It does bring a lot to peoples lives, and we are very lucky we have club who cares about it's City, and the fans. It's level headed, and the nature of most of us from Swansea is reflected on how our club is run.
    Long may it continue
