Libya's army was on it's knees and very poorly organised therefore easy to take out from the sky. Syria have a proper army. we dont attack people with good armies, they planes cost a lot ye know
I agree with Toby and Trevor (**** me that's a scary alliance ). Syria's security forces are very well organised and we simply don't have the power to go in there and take them on. I hope that the rebels get stronger as they did in libya so that it makes the chance of victory more realistic but unfortunately that will take time. The UK Government (both labour and conservative/make it up as you go along just to stay in power party coalition) has no moral compass whatsoever - if it did we'd have gone into Zimbabwe 20 years ago.
Western imperialism only invades a country when it suits its economic and political interests. The US have an election this year so rule them out till at least this time next year and you could rule france out if the socialists are elected in their upcoming election. What applies to Syria also applies to Iran so there wont be any "humanitarian" wars for gun toting liberals to get involved in till at least 2013.(we are not the world police)
No oil, no point, no conflict. What's really important, is the rocks near Argentina... or does a 'British' conflict win votes? <cameroninstruggleforpoweranditdidnoharmformaggie>
Dont know how argentina came into the middle east but you can also add could we win again if it came to it? The answers no.No US backing. No carriers. No friendly dictatorship ie chile in South America.Compromise has never been a feature of imperialism so when it comes to the Malvinas/Falklands the idea of joint sovereignty between argentina and the UK,like say how Hong Kong worked for so long, wont be on the agenda.
"Arab Spring" dont make me laugh Obviously has been organised in a clandestine manner, no way such a thing could have been so sporadic and yet so organised. So im left looking at whos the real winner in all of this. Methinks its main aim is a reorganisation of political influence in the region. Get them all to fight each other, divide them and watch how they all stick up for (or don't as the case may be) each other when nations like Iran start getting attacked by Israel/US for the crime of absolutely nothing. While they are at it they may as well also have a lovely little resource grab (libya)
I once thought it was all shoite, about press releases and news reports. Listen to the ****s now about the 'heroic rebels' in Ireland we were called terrorists. What gives?
I meant: Jakey appears to be claiming that Egyptians and Libyans have overthrown their government and Syrians are trying to because some "New World Order" (perhaps) has "organised" it. This is what he's saying isn't it or am I pissed? If so, it makes the twin-towers and moon-landings conspiracy theories look positively sane.
What?? The CIA has specialised in it since its inception. "leaders", advisors, infiltration, money etc ..... you can bet your bottom dollar these uprisings aren't a spontaneous event and there is a puppetmaster. Protest movements and uprisings of this scale take up to months to put together as they require their own infrastructure and look how quickly a command line and and hierarchy of power/command developed.
Hello all. recently joined up on here and saw this section My thoughts on the whole 'arab spring' thing were changed listening to a conversation regarding the shifting of the Occupy movement in London In a nutshell one person was saying that the Libyan, Syrian and even Egyptian uprisings seemed to start with protests similar to occupy. As with occupy, the police were charged with the task of removing the protesters. However, unlike occupy the protesters persisted and even took up arms. This lead to the sending in of the military, and we saw the results. The interesting thing being, what David Camerons response would have been had the people involved in occupy had had taken a similar stance and armed themselves, or even continued. Would it have lead to military involvement? as was suggested in the london looting riots? Of course comparisons will get drawn between the regimes and I personally do not know enough to comment on Gaddafi or Assad. However I do feel that maybe the end results would have been similar.
