With both precariously teetering on the 10 yellow mark, does anyone think it would be worth resting one, if not both of these 2 important figures in our central mf?

Ordinarily I would never take this stance but considering the rough nature of tomorrow's opponents and the importance of the Wolves game this may be something to consider.

No, I would play the strongest team regardless, Barton can cover one if they get suspended and if both are out at the same time then Barton and Guthrie will be fine. (Based on the fact that Guthrie and Nolan coped when Tiote was banned earlier and Barton is a better CM than Nolan.)

It's a pain but they have to play and eventually one or both will pick up the cards to get the one match ban.

No they both need to play, as overseas toon pointed out they will have to play at some point and if they are going to get a 1-match ban then the home game against Wolves is probably the one they'll be missed the least. We need a good team out tomorrow to have a chance of anything

Strongest team has to be put out and that must include Nolan and Tiote.

Were twice as likely to win with Tiotes midfield dominance and Nolans goals imo.

Apparently after the Stoke game the discipline slate is wiped clean before the Wolves game. Can anyone confirm this?

Also they would be 2 match bans wouldnt they?

We need to play our strongest XI at all times. As stated Barton can play the deep DM role if they both get suspended and Ireland can play Nolan's role. We will have enough cover in a week or so, but we don't have the necessary cover now!

    This.

Edit: Weren't people saying at the start of the season that our best CM partnership was Barton and Guthrie? I'll definitely like to see them play together in the middle! Barton's better but Guthrie's style is similar to Barton(Good range of passing, good set-piece delivery, composed and technically adept). If Nolan/Tiote or both get suspended then as long as Guthrie plays OK and Barton's fit, we'll get a positive result against Wolves.

Another good point, we'd need to play a 5-1-4 or 6-1-3 formation with Guthrie alone in CM if we rest Tiote and Nolan.

I'm not sure about this. I hope it is the case though.

If not, then Tiote and Nolan are certain to pick up another yellow before the end of the season, so may as well play them now.

We can't rest 2 key players, we're not in a position to be able to do that

I think the yellow cards get wiped out after the Wolves game or even after the Aston Villa game

Does anyone know the actually date as can't find it out anywhere?

  16. If we have to rest one of them, rest Nolan, and put Guthrie on instead. We don't need Tiote to beat Wolves. And this is only assuming Tiote does get booked. He's been on 9 yellows for a while now and managed to keep clean.

what would be the point in resting a player close to a ban for cards? you rest him and that means you're not utilizing him at all which might as well be a ban

lets say it will incur a 2 match ban if he picks up a tenth yellow card.
you sit him out one match to rest him for a "bigger game". he picks up this card in that one (theoretically) then sits out the 2 game ban
you have effectivley lost that player for 3 matches coz of the one you sat him out in, rather than just 2 because of one "bigger" match

i know id rather have my best players on the pitch more often than not

Not got the players, with the exception of Ben Arfa, Gosling and Ryan Taylor everyone should be available for the Wolves game.

And Ireland, Enrique, Smith and a number of young fringe players like Lua Lua, Kadar and Vuckic. Barton and Jonas also 50/50.

There's no way we can name a team without Nolan and Tiote with the current injuries. Unless you fancy a 5-2-3 with Barton and Guthrie in midfield?
