This is fair enough- a campaign to get as many people of any background to vote should have our support. However, people aren't always right, and whilst agreeing with their general aims it's not unreasonable to disagree on a specific issue. I have seen the ad, but not read the OBV's comment other than what has been reported. If the reporting is full and correct (big if), it would seem they've been hypersensitive on this one. Regardless of anyone's opinion of the ad though, what riles most of us on here is this blanket condemnation of anyone associated with the club, because of certain individuals or events. The idea that defending yourself against a charge of racism makes you racist is absurd and twisted.
The ad in Australia WAS racist, and was rightly pulled. Not seen the Reina advert, but he's gotta be a bit thick hasn't he ? Unfortunately, without the " PC gone mad " groups, the levels of racism faced by people, in their day to day lives, would be much higher in the UK than it currently is. Which is still too high. Is the opinion of a middle aged white person from a predominantly white country going to have the greater experience than that of a non-white person living in the same country to say as to what is, and is not, racist ? Perhaps the frustration is created by racist allegations and learning expectations being an apparent one way street, and that can lead to an overdefensive response, that unfortunately lends itself towards apparently supporting the initial allegations, as I believe is the case with the recent Liverpool ( and fans ) handling of the Saurez case.
Look panto dame,an African tribal king calls the spanish keeper 'Queen' which is the keepers surname,maybe the tribal king is being homophobic eh?
Morgan Freeman got it right, the only way to stop racism is to stop talking about it. Stop things like Operation Black Vote which actually create racial divisions instead of improving things. The other thing that's come out in the whole Suarez/Terry/Reina stuff is that these "anti-racism" groups actually care very little about prejudice and bigotry in sport, they only care about themselves and their own people. The head of FARE had no problem racially abusing an Asian Liverpool fan. Says a lot about these organisations and their actual motivations. He whined and whined about Dalglish and the team supporting Suarez with T-shirts and DEMANDED an apology from Dalglish for the t-shirts, yet he hasn't apologised once for racially abusing an Asian man. Surprising? No, sadly.
Oh look, Roboleeds turned up on a racism thread on the Liverpool board...again...either you're a member of a racial awareness group. A member of an ethnic minority, overcompensating for supporting a club steeped in racism orrrrr...just your very average WUM....
The twat is a Leeds hooligan. One of the Leeds Service Crew. http://www.network54.com/Forum/283664/ An anti Irish racist one at that.

RobofLeeds (no login)

[h=1]Re: but your not[/h] August 18 2007, 5:57 PM

It must be 'ard for 'Uddersfield, they wait ages to be ahead of Leeds United, who've always given them such an inferiority complex, and when they finally manage it, they look at the table and realise we're STILL ahead of them, except for a dodgy ruling by an Irish tory twat. Poor little twats.

Unfortunately these are the kind of moronic views held by a lot of people. Point 1-let's ignore the concept of justice and fairness, as long as racism is reduced then it's job well done. This is the exact same mentality that leads to the death penalty. Point 2- the most hilarious of all the lines taken by so called 'anti-racists'. We want to eradicate racism in order to promote equality. Solution? Promote inequality by giving certain groups more influence in issues of race. How do you think racism became a problem? Example- white European man has 'more experience' of running a business, therefore the only ones allowed to manage groups of black workers are white men. Slavery- tick. Read a couple of racism blogs and everyone's an expert in morality right? I wish John Barnes was given more chance to become involved in legislating these things as the man's thoughts on the matter of racism seem far less biased, and far more educated, than some of this type of rubbish. Also the idea that the severity of the crime is down to the victim's opinion doesn't work. Just because i tell people the word 'sandwich' is offensive, does that mean anyone who says it to me is being offensive?
More of your lot probably would want to pont that out to fistiansmith, he's a foooking frank spencer. Some motheres do ave em I think anyways they were amusing little sketches. The dude in the first bit would want to lay off the Roids!!
Anti Irish, so, if he comes into contact with Irish, there'll be a massive explosive reaction? I guess thats what happens when you let ignorance and deep seeded bitterness consume you
Yeah,those Leeds Service Crew hooligans are very bitter and racist,mainly against the Asian community(as seen on their website),but Rob gives a special mention to the Irish.
seeing this thread is ongoing... unbelievably... make comment on the following. lyrics to katey perry song you're wrong when it's right, it's BLACK and its white"" Barry scott and stupid cillit bang advert... with his "TWIN" it inane debate should be laughed out of town
Yep, there they go, Liverpool 'fans' confuse being overdefensive with abuse, again. There really are no deapths that you will not sink to are there. You've 'researched' back, 5 years (!), to locate a username the same as mine on another site and leapt to the conclusion it is one and the same person. You see any of that in my posts ? Anyway, I've got a mate who's irish, so can't be racist can I ? That's how it works isn't it ? In every gormless attempt to defend the indefensible, you dig yourself deeeper in. Could be the club's new motto that "Rob" of "Leeds"
Look mr amatuer thespian/football hooligan extrordinaire your a member of a notorious group of racist football hooligans,whether it was 5 years ago or not you still joined the group. Your comment on the 'Irish tory twat' negates any pompous and moralistic bullshit you spout on our board about Suarez&Reina.
"is it cus I is black?" It's a bit of free press for Operation Black Vote, who up until this point have existed in total obscurity! The advert is a racist as showing an English village with cricket being played on the green and a bunch of morris dancers skipping down the road. Or showing Native Americans smoking a pipe out front of a wigwam dancing around a fire. It's not even stereotyping, as it is not claiming that all black people are like this. The fact that all these groups would gladly flaunt such obsolete concepts to attract tourists should stop people complaining when such outdated images are employed to "make fun" There are enough African villages that are more than happy to break out the grass skirts and spears and dance around the fire for a bus load of tourists on safari.
