Bit of a waste of a thread seeing it could have been posted under the Yeovil Match Thread but I feel as though one man certainly deserves to be highlighted from todays match. Rene Gilmartin in Goal for Yeovil was outstanding today. Yes he let in three goals but tbh I cant see what he could have done better to stop them as they were supurb goals and were the only way he was gonna get beaten today. The main topic though is the wonder save from Michael Morrison, I'm still sitting here now wondering how it didnt go in seeing that Rene was on his arse after making an initial save and then managed to get his hand up to stop another strongly hit volley. Secondly he then later managed to leap and stop an Ephraim placed shot, it was the way he managed to hang in the air for (probably could have enjoyed a cuppa at the same time he seemed up there for so long). For me Rene was the reason the score wasnt higher today and hopefully Yeovil will keep hold of him till the end of the season (and survive as I've been three times now to Yeovil and its a lovely place (with some characters that I've bumped into)). Just Yeovil do me a favour... If we dont go up this season, stop getting superb GKs in on loan against us every season, the other year it was Alex McCarthy who was just as outstanding and its getting annoying
Hate to dent your comment - but just saw Greens goal on Sky and thought that the goalie should have done much better - it shouldnt have gone in - goalie was def at fault. Isnt he loaned to Yeovil from Watford ?
Have to admit Stu I was going by memory from the match and couldnt remember too much about the Green goal other than seeing it nestled in the corner. I just felt that had it been Joe Hart or another Premiership Goalkeeper it would have been the classic case of hearing about that "wonder-save" for a few weeks. You only have to see the "Live Football Text" on the BBC website when they say that there are 5 matches on today... err there isnt just the five we'll have you know, there are quite a few more than that in the Football League actually.
Yes I agree wonderful county and I'll miss it dearly it its own special way. It did sound as it he made some great saves but they always do put in a good peformance against Charlton, remember the home game last season and they were near the bottom then and I thought playing like that they didn't deserve to be. Very good fans as well and Huish Park has atmosphere. Is there no FL show tonight, MOTD only advertised on the BBC website and in the TV listings?
Have to admit I'm not sure either if there was a FL show last night, didnt really matter if there was though as their coverage is rubbish IMO. Always best to wait a few days then you get the Extended Highlights on the BBC Charlton page
McCarthy's performance against us at Yeovil remains the best goalkeeping display I've ever seen in this division - we'd have walked it without him. In addition, his goal kick that came back over his head for a corner is one of the funniest things I've seen on any football field. Truly the worst conditions in which I've seen a match played.
Looks like this runs it close... http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs...eper-scores-loop-loop-own-goal-161450262.html
Brilliant Tewkes, sums it up in the last paragraph... 'the match had to be abandoned after an hour because one of the goals blew over.'
Yes I saw this on the Metro website this morning - McCarthy certainly would have had an own goal that day had the wind sent the ball in slightly a different direction
