Gillingham have made the signing of Jordan Obita on a youth loan from Reading for a month, he is an 18 year old Winger, he will go straight into the squad, he seems a good signing as he has played at the England under 18 and 19 level, I have heard a lot about him that he is one for the future as he is known to be rather good. http://www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10416~2631063,00.html I am well happy that we have got him as he gives us another option in midfield down the wing and I think it signals that Hessenthaler may want to try out 4-4-2 again as he would be able to play on the wing with Whelpdale the other side. Also with the number of games coming up we will need to rotate the squad like Hess said to Kent messenger earlier as the squad will not be able to play that many games in a month.
Welcome to Jordan. Is this the pace and width that we've needed since the start of the season ? - hope so. We do have a lot of games in the next month and the 'forward thinking' options on the bench have been a bit thin over the last few games. Hopefully the extra dimension will allow for more creativity. Do we know if we can extend the loan period if things go well - say until the end of May ! UTG.
Don't say anything about if we can extend the loan but with it being only a month I would have thought that we should be able to extend it upto 90 days so we would have him till May, I would not have thought that Reading would need him back too quickly as they have a very strong team.
Seems like a good snap to me. Winger with decent credentials and background who wants to play games. Will at very least give us, as alwaysright was inevitably right with, an attacking option on the bench.
Thank you T-T-S-N. should I include the adjective 'inevitably' in my username - I thought it sounded arrogant enough ?
So hang on a moment let me get this right, we have had more than enough options to play with wingers but consistently choose 433, we sign a winger not sure if he is left or right but because of this we may change to my preferred 442, sorry I am obviously missing something? Surely you do not change your formation because you have the busiest fixture listing of the season, otherwise me thinks smoke screen.
I just think we may play 4-4-2 now we have him because it gives us that option as I believe he is a left winger so 4-4-2 would be required to use him at his best.
The reason why I think we may change the formation is because where there are so many games we may need to rest a striker so that means reverting back to 4-4-2, if we rest Kuffour that means we will only play 4-4-2, so I do have a reason behind it.
So Hessy has been absolutely insistent imo on constantly playing 433 and because we sign this lad, we are suggesting he may revert to 442 due to a heavy fixture listing? Laughable. Hessy has never shown any tactics that include wingers, that can already be covered via our current very large squad and by previous players released. You got more chance of finding an official on the wing than a Gillingham player.
In terms of rotating and resting players I would have thought that Simon King was the only one in question. Naturally this isn't down to his form it's just to prevent aggravation. I was a little unsure of this one (Obita move) to be honest surely the only area we need cover on is in the back four, I really hope that we aren't going to be throwing Tomlin onto one wing and this lad onto the other because Tomlin has been a force up top so far.
Obita is a forward/winger. Tomlin is a forward/winger,Kedwell is a forward and so is Kuffour.I can only see him dropping one of those to the bench at any one time,so the way I see it,it is still 4-3-3
brb -I'm happy for a fluid formation, depending on the circumstances. I actually prefer to start with 442, retaining a decent striking option to come on as sub ( or in addition of the other strikers -433.) Lately we haven't had a 'strong ' striker on the bench - instead we have tried to utilise, Tomlin, Kuffour & even Kedwell as 'wingers' / wide forwards - when these players have not always been used in their best positions. We also haven't had a recognised winger with pace. The formation may need to change to accomodate Obita. A player with his credentials should allow us to use different formations at some point in the game if circumstances demand a change. - at times we have been too predictable, and certainly too slow in going forward.
I think I should say I am not disputing what people are saying, I would prefer 442 and I love wingers. However, mentioning the name Hessy and that combination mentioned just has me in hysterics! You have forced your team to play 433 but now you are going to change tactics and make one signing to base it on. Some one tell me this is a joke. I would have more respect, if you put your hands up and said we had a five game losing streak because I got it wrong, not just on players but FORMATION.
I think Kuffour would have to be dropped, then if Hess would still stick with 4-3-3 he would play Obita upfront on the left with Keds central and Tomlin on the right of attack, I think it would work, but I think he has just brought him in so we have an option on the bench as I see Rance has just gone out on loan to 'DOVER'
I think formation is the issue here. And I think if we play Kedwell behind the front 2 (just like paul shaw) that would work just fine, Who gets dropped in midfield? And on a seperate issue lots of good backing from Paul scally nice signings etc what with pompey rangers and possibly Port Vale is it time too worry???
I wouldn't say we need one now, maybe a back up for Left back as I don't think Martin is up to the job really, maybe a back up but I would have thought he would be on a good wage so he is not worth keeping unless he works hard to impress.
Obita has been brought in as a impact sub. A bit like Rooney was to add something different. If he does well or lots of injuries he may start.
